AMD Slips Targeted Delivery for 45nm CPUs
|A lot of things haven't went AMD's way since around the summer of 2006 and unfortunately the situation will persist with the company's move to 45nm production. AMD's bold plan was to start volume production of 45nm chips around mid-2008 and have the processors, at least the server-oriented Opterons, selling in Q3. The updated time line for 45nm delivery now sees AMD promising volume shipment of CPUs manufactuered using the mentioned node from Q4.
The delay basically means that the Shanghai Opterons and Deneb and Propus Phenoms will reach OEMs and stores around one year after Intel has introduced its own 45nm processors and just around the time the server and high-end desktop Nehalems come into play.
