To elaborate on Crysis;
rysis [/b]is definitely a game that will cause your jaw to drop. Keep in mind I played through the game on ULTRA, on a 37 inch monitor.
The opening is you jumping out of an aircraft in the middle of the night. The character models are ridiculously life like… one of your teammates does a swan dive out the back of the plane. Something goes wrong during the descent and your team gets separated. After landing on the beach of a tropical island, a full moon is casting shadows on EVERYTHING. There are crabs running around the beach, reflections of waves, rocks, fallen trees, everything looks ridiculous lifelike.
The voice acting from the get go sounds great… it’s not until a scientist gets introduced later in the story where it feels to fall apart. The story is gripping from the get go, and gives off a ‘LOST’ (tv show) type feel… The gameplay is tight, upgrading guns and using your suit powers are fun as hell.
My biggest gripes about the game is the sound effects. Explosions occur, and metal exploding or bending doesn’t sound like anything is happening. I watch missiles fly into things and nothing explodes. This is mainly towards the end of the game where there’s dozens of things on the screen.
My second complaint is the ending. I knew there’d be a cliffhanger, but I didn’t expend the game to end the way it did.
But the initial hype around the game back when it was released in late 07 was the graphics. And they really show off the engine. From the night time play, to the sun rise, to the tropical island to a snowy mix (the game explains the weather change).
Crysis is worth playing. And I’m about to start Warhead which I’ve heard is even better.
Can’t wait for Crysis 2.
