Thinking of a buying a 17 in 2.6 ghz MBP....gaming?

Hey all
Ive had 3 MBP's in the past a 2.1 15 a 2.2 17 and a 2.4 15 and they all sucked at gaming getting maybe 3500 in 3dmark 2006

I see the new MBP 17 2.6's can get almost 5000-6000 in 3dmark 2006 and thats VERY respectable!
with the new 512 MB 8600GT are those scores really gettable in xp bootcamp?

Let me know

Patrick

Looking to go from an E1705 7900 GS to a MBP 17 2.6 8600GT 512mb

I am playing COD4 smooth as silk on my 17" MBP 2.6 with high def 1920 screen. No I do only run the game at 1280....

Hmmnnn... Since they have the same video card, will a 2.6 MBP actually game that much better than a 2.4? A jump in 3DMark06 due to the processor isn't necessarily going to be directly proportional to real life gaming (but, I would think it would help - just not sure how much).

I've got the 2.4 MBP 15" ... with the 512MB 8600M GT video card. Haven't gamed a lot with it, but it seems to do a pretty good job (not talking Crysis).

Doing a bit more research ... interesting link, shows little difference between the current and previous 15" MBPs when it comes to gaming, but the 17" has the definite advantage.

17 inch is clocked higher than 15 inch, due to more extensive cooling. but some of that extra power is compensated by a higher resolution screen.

as far as I know, 15 inch 2.4 should only go up to 256MB DDR3 on the video card, this and last gen. unless you have 2.5 C2D current gen, you do not have 512MB on your card.

oops ... you are right. My options at that time were in fact, 128MB or 256MB for the vide card RAM. I have the 256MB version of the late 2007 15" MacBook Pro.
