Acer Extensa 5420-5687 laptop will not power up

Hi everyone, I just got an Acer Extensa 5420-5687 laptop (used no warranty) , added a new hdd and plugged in and I get nothing, the battery light does not light up, I swapped power supplies with my 5102wlmi and I still get nothing, no lights no nothing I have a feeling I know where this is going which might be the trash bin, but I thought I might ask if there is something I should be looking for. I have tried holding the power button without a battery and all that neat stuff. The battery charge light does not come on at all, its been plugged in for about an hour now and I get nothing.......anybody got any ideas?

. tried wiggling at the power jack?
. were u sure that ac and batt still good?

could be power jack? loose/broken connection?
assuming of course the battery is dead.

Did you measured voltage at adapter connector?
I think that this is common problem with motherboard power-on circuit
I'm wondering, before you installed new disk, notebook was working OK?
