reboots compaq presario F500

Hi i'm new here so please about lenience.

So problem is following. I have notebook which reboots after exactly 25 sec after power button pressed.
When I turn on this computer cpu fan works and the led blinks. Screen is all the time blank.
I think that it's problem with mobo but what is wrong with this mobo?
Does somebody have any idea? Thanks for reply.

Ouch! That the screen remains blank for some 25 seconds into the boot up, would suggest a hardware, probably motherboard (again, based on the sequence, I doubt hard drive, though maybe memory?), issue versus say an OS problem.

Maybe qhn or INFO[NOS] might have some specific ideas?

there r 2 things i would personally look into before writing the mobo off:

. cmos battery

hi, thank's for interested. So i installed new mobo in my notebook, but now i have another problem with audio. I don't know what is wrong because I installed drivers and with drivers is everything okey, in device manager is also everything okey, but I can't hear nothing. It's so strange because I can hear system speaker. In other systems eg. Linux or FreeBsd is the same.

Somebody know what's wrong?
Cheers!

u might want to update xp (if u have it) to the latest stand, and search for kb888111 patch (might apply to ur issue). Chipset driver installed?

Although I dobut that is is this, try your headphone jack and see if you get sound that way...not likely if your system speaker/notebook speakers are one and the same, but that is not always the case, sometimes the system speaker is a little button-speaker on the board!

Now, if you are showing everything OK in Device Manager, and Linux also does not work with it, then perhaps your speaker cable is not completely connected, or something of that ilk? After all, since you replaced the mobo, I'm sure that you had that all un-plugged/re-plugged, and some of those little connectors are easy to not quite get...or the wire gets "pinched" when putting everything back together.

Though qhn may be right about the chipset drivers, I kind of doubt it if everything shows okay under Device Manager, I would've expected the dreaded Y.E.P. (yellow exclamation points!)

I'm using SP3 so I don't have to install and I don't have Y.E.P.. System speaker and notebook speakers are one and the same. In headphones i don't have sounds too.. I'm tired

Well, since you are getting system sounds, I guess that eliminates a wiring/cable type issue. Since you also can get no sound while using another OS, this really is getting confusing...

So guys i solve my problem. It was unplugged cable of front panel..it's this where are headphone and mic jack.
I'm interesting yet why my computer with new mobo starting sometimes in two once sometimes longer - is it maybe by cmos battery? And almost always with laptop battery don't want start.

doubt that CMOS batt has anything to do with slow startup. might want to review ur startup processes and clean them all out first. Are u in a network? Any external devices connected while starting up?

Screen is blank and after 25sek i have resets like with old mobo, next after 2-3 once starting normally.
When computer is warm starting without problem.

ahhhh ... now we may get somewhere. it happens on many Sony models as well. Take a closer look at the area of the memory slots. On sony the slots someitmes need resoldering

So u thinking that is this by memory slot? So maybe my old mobo has the same problem?
I notice also that when I connect my battery when I'm using computer - my notebook is frozen and on screen I see color sings...
After this, my computer starting with battery without any problem because he is warm (i think so).

Cheers!!
