A friend gave me an A55-s106 with a possible bad screen. I hooked it up to a regular monitor and the system is fine that way .It might flicker if you move the lcd around though. My question is,could the lcd be bad or the inverter? Thanks. Oh,one more thing.I have an extra tecra 8200 screen which is smaller buthas the same hookup which i tried. It lit up but that was all.Does it have to be installed in the laptop in order to display a picture?

Even the external video port does work as you say, a nonfunctioning LCD can be caused by a:

- failed inverter
- failed CCFL backlight
- defective LCD video cable

If the laptop has been dropped or mishandled, it's possible to either break the CCFL and/or pinch, tear, or otherwise sever the video cable especially at the LCD hinge where it's the least protected and wear is the highest.

That said, if a replacement LCD lights up white with no video image then you know that both the inverter and CCFL are working fine but the LCD isn't getting a video signal.

So, I'd say the video cable needs to be inspected and replaced if need be.

I noticed the screen looks green also.

You say the LCD looks green...as in an overall greenish tint or green lines running vertically or horizontally?

The former can be caused by the CCFL as not all CCFLs produce perfectly white light while the latter can be caused either by a video card or video cable issue--or the LCD itself.

If any lines appear on the display even with the video cable disconnected, then the LCD is most likely faulty.

I going to assume the bulb is bad since my other screen lit up. I was wondering does it have 1 or 2 bulbs?
