Compaq or Acer???

Compaq Presario A931NR or Acer Aspire AS7720-6569?

Wondering which is the better choice?

A) Compaq Presario A931NR from Best Buy for $599.99?
17" WXGA+ display (1440 x 900)
Intel Pentium Dual Core T2370
3 GB DDR2 RAM (PC -5300)
160 GB Sata 5400 RPM Hard drive
Dual Layer DVD burner
Intel x3100 shared memory up to 358MB
3 USB 2.0 ports
Built-in WebCam
Vista Home Premium w/ SP1

B) Acer Aspire AS7720-6569 in-store display, Staples $580:
17" WXGA+ (1440 x 900)
Intel Core 2 duo T5450 (1.66GHZ)
2 GB DDR2 RAM (PC -5300)
160 GB Sata Hard drive (5400 RPM?)
Dual Layer DVD burner
Intel x3100 shared memory up to 358MB
4 USB 2.0 ports, 1 Firewire port
Builti-n webcam
Vista Home Premium

So, very similar specs both have standard 1 year warranties but the Acer has the newer, faster CPU...but brand reliability is in question and build of Acer products. The Compaq is very sturdy and looks good and I don't plan on gaming much on it as I have a powerful desktop..just for day to day stuff; i.e. word processing, web, etc. Which to buy?

I dont really think either one is a really good company...But if I had the choice i think i would lean towards the Acer...

the acer has slightly better specs and a better price. I have had good results with HP/Compaq tech/customer service. I'd probably lean toward the Acer and add a gig of ram based solely on the specs. but unlike Artek I'd lean toward the Compaq based on brand.

Well if your budget is around $600, I recommend you to have a look at Dell, they are now having a $300 off on all XPS M1730 laptops, you can get something better there maybe with the same price.

Yeah I think we both helped him haha I think either way you will get the same quality. I would go for Acer because the specs are a bit better.

PLEASE tell me where you can get an XPS 1730 for $600 with or without $300 off. I think anything in the XPS line will be well over his budget based on the two that he's trying to decide between.

So based on the responses I'm seeing that either way between these two choices that it's pretty much a toss up. I had heard that the budget lines of laptops are pretty much the same and that all you are really paying for is the quality of support/service. The only thing about the Acer that concerns me is the fact that it's been sitting on display powered on in the store for at least a month or two..which means there's already been some wear vs. the Compaq being brand new in the box...I do like the Acer's CORE 2 DUO CPU vs. the Compaq's DUAL CORE CPU...but not sure if I'll really notice that much of a difference??? I guess it depends on the application(s).

I have an ACER and it seems quite good so far. I'd go the ACER also. i got mie @ BB, my 7422GX took a dump so geek squad gave me the ACER for the 7422GX. Centrino Duo1.86CoreDuo, 2gbm 160gb 5400 webcam 15.4
