Remote controls for the m15x

So when I purchased my m15x, I was intrigued by the idea of an express card remote control for my computer. I saw it available on the order page, but decided against it. I called AW, but they didn't know what brand it was. It took me the longest time to figure out what the express card remote was, but I finally figured it out.

Interlink Electronics VP6600 ExpressCard Media Remote for Bluetooth
http://www.amazon.com/Interlink-Elec...9362774&sr=8-8

While searching, I found something else...

MoGo Media Mouse X54 for ExpressCard/54 Laptops
http://www.amazon.com/Media-Mouse-Ex...9362959&sr=1-4

Comparison:

Interlink -
Bluetooth
Stores and charges in 54mm express card slot
Extends about 1/4 inch from the case while in the express card slot
It contains the following buttons:
Volume up
Volume down
Volume mute
Next
Previous
Play/Pause
Stop
Scan Forward
Scan Backwards
Back
Page up
Page down
Up arrow
Down arrow
Left arrow
Right arrow
OK (enter)

Mogo -
Bluetooth
Stores and charges in 54mm express card slot
Roughly twice the cost of the Interlink remote
Acts as a laser mouse
Lighter than the Interlink remote
Fits nearly flush with the case while in the express card slot
It contains the following buttons:
Volume up
Volume down
Volume mute
Next
Previous
Play/Pause
(Thus, it lacks DVD controls)

I like the mogo much better, but of course you get what you pay for. It's a slightly worse remote as it lacks buttons and there isn't a physical separation between the play/pause button, volume up/down, and mute, so you can't really use it without looking at it. However, it can also be a mouse and it doesn't stick out an absurd amount from the m15x case, thus is easier to travel around with.

One word of advice... the express card and multi-card slot in the m15x are directly above the Nvidia graphics card (of any flavor). If you're gaming, take out any express card or memory card in those slots if you'd like to use them again. Of course, when you're using integrated graphics, that portion of the laptop is basically heat-free.

There's actually 2 versions of the mogo.

One is the one seen above, the media remote. The other is the "pro" version, which has powerpoint/presenter controls instead of media player controls. They're usually roughly the same price, but the pro version has a mini laser pointer.

I chose the media version because left clicking with a mouse is the same as "next slide" in most presentation applications, so I figured I could just click.

The Interlink sticks out quite a bit. That would annoy the heck out of me.

And I see some mogo X54's on ebay for about half the cost.

I disagree those are not DIRECTLY above the graphics card but rather near , and close to the HDD as well. But if you move to a Solid State drive there is nearly no heat in that area. Ask anyone with a SSD drive in their m15x, I promise you that all will tell you that the lower left hand side of their palm rest is nearly all heat free.

SSD as an answer to the stated issue seems a little extreme on this model. You might be 100% correct but with the cost do you think it is reasonable for most? I don't but I am cheap.

Oh and this thread is a little aged your tip a little over a year ago would of been more timely.
