Well, after my last experience, I'm taking the plunge at building my own PC. It's all ordered in one fell swoop from newegg at a GREAT price....literally getting all the power the Alien should have had for $3K less!!!!!

Here's the build!

ALREADY HAVE:
* Klipsh Por-Media 2.1 Revision Speaker System
* Razer Lachesis Gaming Mouse (probably keep for my sager and slide my nice logitech to the OB)
* Logitech G15 Backlit Gaming Keyboard

FROM NEWEGG:
* Case: Thermaltake Armour Series VA8003BWS Black Full Tower Case w/ 25 CM Fan
* Extra Fans: Thermaltake 12018 120mm Blue LED Case Fans (3)
* Motherboard: EVGA nVidia nForce 780i SLi DDR2 ATX Intel Motherboard
* Video Card: EVGA 01G-P3-N891-AR GeForce 9800 GX2 1GB 51-2 bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0x16
* Power Supply: Thermaltake W0131RU ATX12V /EPS12V 850W Power Supply
* CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 Kentsfield 2.66 GHx LGA 775 95W Quad Core
* RAM: CORSAIR DOMINATOR 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit
* Hard Drive: Seagate Barracude 7200.11 ST3750330AS 750 GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0 Gb/s
* Optical Drive: Samsung 20x DVD+/- R DVD Burner w/ Lightscribe
* Sound Card: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Extreme Gamer 7.1
* CPU Cooler: Thermaltake CL-P0257 Blue Orb II CPU Coooler for LGA775
* OS: Vista Ultimate 64-bit OEM
* Thermal Compound and a new Rosewill tool kit!

If all goes well, this will be built by the end of the week!!!

later,
pat!

will do steve! the OS has shipped, i purchased everything from newegg (for sanity's sake!) so it all should arrive at the same time...I'll snap pics of it all and maybe even a photo diary as i build this puppy (w/ HUGE help from my friend in IT here!).

I think, other than the 2.66 processor, everything is as good as or better than what the AW had (the processor the AW had was faster...)....and for literally 3K less, well, heck! It's worth the effort to build!

New Egg does do an amazing job with speedy delivery and super fast return/exchange rates.

Why not go for the Q9450 over the Q6700? Just curious.

That was my only question as well ...

Otherwise, looks great!

Don't forget the warranty if it doesn't power up perfect first time...and your labor is worth sumptin!~? The Q6700 Alienware hasen't offered for a while, with the cheap Wolfdales and all...3K less?

Definitely Killin' Me. Just bought an over priced New Area-51 for less than 3K and loving it! The customer/sales/tech support has been worth at least three or four hunnerd to me...but that dam TAX!!!

Loves me some Alienware!

Looks like a nice build pad11, but I hope where you see I had to reply?!

Sometimes you just have to build it yourself.

I've never had a single problem with my builds. I've also haven't had a single problem with Neweggs RMA or customer service at no extra charge.

oh and don't forget He won't have to wait 1-2 months to get his computer after paying for it.

=)

I love DIY

and yes looks like an awesome rig. Do look at the Q9450 though.

I hear you, funny though I mentioned the "if it doesn't power up the first time' warranty... pad11 definitely took advantage of that one...20 hours?

1-2 months?

The only problem I've ever had was my hanns-g lcd had a vertical row of dead pixels. Newegg paid for shipping both ways and I had a new lcd in about 6 business days.

And what are you kidding about?

Newegg is teh best.

hey all, thanks a BUNCH for the responses! Some quick thoughts...

1) The reason I didn't get the 9450 is i really wanted to order everything from one vendor for sanity's sake and newegg didn't offer the 9450 (unless i missed it which IS possible!!!).

2) NEVER feel bad for sticking up for Alienware if you are having a good experience...I am NOT one of those who feels just because I had a horrible time w/ them that others shouldn't use them....that's just not fair!

3) I'm very excited and very scared at the same time! First build and all!

4) Newegg shipped EVERYTHING the same day I ordered it...that is freaking awesome!

5) Each product has a 3-5 year manufacturer warranty on it to begin with, so the only real difference i'm going to have to deal with is dealing with each company one on one per part as opposed to just calling AW or Dell or whoever...

later all and thanks again,
pat!

Pat - This looks awesome!

Again, I hate that the AW didn't work out for you, but you'll be more than satisfied with your BYOPC. If you need anything - we're here to help. All of the folks that have replied so far are extremely knowledgeable. Don't let Boyd fool you, he's also a closet BYOPCer .

A note regarding the Q9450. High demand - low supply. You can find them, but the Egg is usually the very first place that shows "Out of Stock".

I'll probably stick w/ the 6700 as it the same as the one i have in my Sager! So i really won't notice a difference...(seriously, I don't play first person shooters, so speed is all relative! i need something that will eat Oblivion and the Witcher and SC Societies alive and that's what I get from my sager ).

thanks for the input and I'll be leaning on your folks for sure!

Everything will be here tomorrow so depending on the time of day it arrives, who knows, i could have this thing built by tomorrow night or at least by Thursday!

I'm actually not sure now 48 hours later, just feel the impending ban doom Was probably thinking the challunge of 'never ever one problem' and the '1-2 month wait after payment' comments. Believe me when I say, the latest Area-51 shipped nine daze earlier than the Estimated Ship Date. Soo, I'm thinking 'out of ass statement'?

You have to admit that the e-tailers do what their policy is. Anythang more or less would be, well...uncivilized.

Hope everything arrived on time pad11, should be a great weekend for jou.

thyne pics will come!!!

The only Vista 64 problem I've had on my Xotic Sager9262 is that it will NOT play STALKER...it freezes on the menu screen, don't know why...

Back on topic, If the UPS dude shows up early enough today, I may be able to build it today and put Vista on tonight at home!!!

later,
pat!
