Eurocom Python AMD64 w/ATI 9700 is up! - Page 2

It would appear to be using the 4780 chasis. And no, the 4780 and the 8790 do not share the same chasis. Its similar only in its general size. The 4780 has only a single drive bay.

Its too bad, they started off on the right foot, then chickened out. Why, I cannot imagine. Seems to be a common condition though.

I still want to see an AMD Athlon 64 FX in a notebook with a big wonking screen and the best GPU with the most RAM one can stuff in there. Oh, yeah, a RAID 0 pair of 60 GB 7200 drives and maybe a nice little trio of 2 GB solid state drives for OS, swap and primary programs. What the heck, throw in PCIe as well, either that or a HyperTransport based mainboard running at 2 GHz. For power, just something to keep it running for 15 minutes as a built-in USB and then a bunch of snap-on Kokam 70 AH LiON battery for traveling. Maybe 4 of them. That'd give me a good 8 hours.

Then I will be impressed. Then I will bust out the champagne and whatnot. And I'll bust that big 4' tall piggy bank to pay for it.

Why oh why not just build a briefcase desktop with an 18inch LCD attached to its side? It's been done, and it's faster than all the laptops out there. It may even be lighter than the one you just described.

That's not what I said. I was discussing one specific spec - 256 megabyte in a video card right now is a waste with no positive benefits. It's only for the spec-boys. That does not mean that I would not buy an 8790 , or that the 8790 is not a good laptop , or that "a desktop replacement is a waste." SHEESH

Overall, you get 1,296,000 pixels with WXGA vs 1,310,720 with SXGA, which is what you quoted. The difference is about 1.1%. Not enough to even think about.
Well maybe I do not understand something, but, assuming that a game does not have a resolution mode specifically for 1440 x 900, as most would not, then I could only choose 1280x1024 or 1024x768 correct?

Assuming that, yep.

256 Megabyte Radeon 9700 is equivelent to putting like 256 megs of RAM on a Geforce MX440 or something. It DOESN"T MATTER because it will NEVER be able to run anything with decent frame rates, even less being able to use all that memory for textures.

This means that when Doom 3 comes out or whatever, don't expect your Radeon 9700 256 megs to perform on any decent settings. Keep in mind that all it is a Desktop Radeon 9600 XT, and that thing really sucks with it's pipeline limitations.

The Radeon 9700 will be old news very soon though, so w/e.

The only thing I want to know is whether or not this Eurocom's GPU is upgradeable.

FYI and FWIW...Eurocom is now listing the Python as having a WSXGA+ screen available in May and a WUXGA screen to be released in August.

This actually is specing out quite nicely. Is this the true "mobile" AMD 64 though? It says it is on their site, but I thought those weren't out yet? I would be leary of ordering this through this vendor however. But with a true mobile AMD64 and a WSXGA LCD this would be a nice laptop. Now if it only had dual batt support! My ideal laptop would have:

1) AMD 64 "mobile" processor
2) ATI 9700
3) DVD+-RW
4) Dual Battery support
5) good speakers and sound with a subwoofer
6) 17" SXGA lcd
7) Nice bright LCD like the new ZD7000 has
8) Reputable vendor with a solid 2 or 3 year warranty
9) 80 gig 5400 rpm HD

That about covers it. Actually, except for the dual batt support, bright LCD and reputable vendor - this laptop covers all my wants. Now if PCTorque would just handle a machine with these specs! It would only make sense to build a rig spec'd like this and I am sure there will be many more options for a simialar rig by July (I hope sooner).

I agree with just about everything you wrote, Tee. I wouldn't feel too confident buying from Eurocom, but I'm certain that other resellers will carry the Python. I prefer the desktop AMD 64 just because I'll take the extra power over the extra battery life of the mobile AMD 64. I also think I'll end up going with the WSXGA+ over the WUXGA. I think the WSXGA+ will be easier on my eyes; I find myself having to get VERY close to my 8600's WUXGA screen to read everything clearly. I'm testing out the HP ZD7000 for the next few weeks, but plan on returning it in favor of something like the Python. I bought it mainly to get some hands-on use of the new WSXGA+ screen HP offers. I'll review the ZD7000 before returning it. I just gotta hope the Python will be out within the 30 days I have before returning the ZD!!

js.... If that ZD7000 had either version of the AMD64 processor I would probably already have it on order. I think this is a good time to wait and have a little patience if that is possible. BTW, don't you have other laptops to use while waiting for a couple of months for the "right" machine to come out? I am back to my "old" Pavilion after returning my nc8000. Of course I am not gaming on it now, but it actually does everything else well enough to get by just fine. Heck, I have been so busy the last couple of months I didn't have that much time to game anyway. In fact I will be even busier starting in mid May, so I guess I might show a little patience on my next laptop purchase. LOL, of course if the "right" thing hit the market tommorrow I'd probably order it anyway!

The Mobile Athlon 64's are already out. Several laptops already use them. One that comes to mind is the eMachines M6809. Perhaps, like the WinXP MCE, these will never comes to the retail channel. Perhaps not. Time will tell.

Thought I would bump this. Any chance of PCTorque carrying the Sager equivalent?

Yeah they should begin this in the pipeline and they'll hit the SKYY ! I wish AMD with a sager comes in june
post #34 of 39
Anyone find another reseller for this bad boy? Its pretty hot, too bad only Eurocom sells it right now.
Yeah i sure would like the idea of having a clone of eurocom in USA ...so that i can order one right away !

Hypersonic ran an ad in a magazine earlier this month that showed an AMD-64 using the same chassis, but the specs were slightly off (15" screen instead of 17", for example). My guess is that the picture was right but the specs were wrong, and that the AMD-64 model due out from HS (a.k.a. the AX7) will be identical to the Eurocom model.

Purely a guess, however.
The specs are not necissarily wrong though, there is a 15.4 inch AMD Amilo being sold overseas, that could be Hypersonics base model in the add.
The sager 4750 is the same model the eurocom will be using. i don't think they have shipped any out yet. the sager 4750 is not available for order at pctorque until the 15th of july.

this model is currently being discussed in the sager forums so if you want more information check out sager general.
