8800M GS in a M1730?

Can anybody tell me why Dell says a 8800M GS fits into a M1730? Does a 8800M GS even exist?

I was just wondering

[DEV_0409&SUBSYS_019C1028] NVIDIA GeForce 8800M GS

[DEV_0409&SUBSYS_019C1028] NVIDIA GeForce 8700M GT

Notice anything? The original name for the 8700M GT was the 8800M GS. Those two above are the Dell device ID's.

The 8800M GS device ID originally appeared in 158.18 from LaptopVideo2Go.

So a 8800M GS is a 8700M GT?

You answered quickly Thanks

Hmmm maybe there is a way to software unlock the 8700 GT so it performs like the 8800GTX?

Also the GTS.

So many names, same old package.

hmm...

Very unlikely that 8700 will due as 8800. Back then, a 7900GS will do almsot the same as 7900GTX. They are both on 256bit, but 8700 is a 128bit GPU, so..... I don't think that will happen.

Maybe its just software locked to 128bit? I dont know, just throwing out ideas.

Nvidia say's "Dual 128Bit Bus" Does anybody know anymore about this? BTW SMOKE_SKULL The 8700M GT or 8800M GS is already higher clocked than the 8800M GTX. The only thing that's holding it back is the 256Mb VRAM and >DUAL< 128Bit Bus.

It's impossible. They're entirely different GPUs.

8600M/8700M = G84

8800M = G92

Entirely different GPUs = NOT HAPPENING.

And the fact that the 8700 has 1/3 the # of shader units (32 vs 96).
