Montevina in the 17x???

Montevinia (aka Centrino 2 vPro<chip + chipset>) in the 17x???

With rumored releases of montevina lappies from other companies, some even claiming early june shipping (a smidge over a month away), anyone down for a montevina 17x and refreshed 15x???

It sure would be sweet IMO, I think it would also help them transition to whats supposed to be intel quad core mobile chip on the same platform this fall.

As I was researching this, I did get a little disappointed to see the roadmap show intels 2009 platform replacing the FSB with some new fangled technology obsoleting the FSB. Damn, farewell FSB how I will miss overclocking thee.

Back on topic, Montevina is spec'd to have bluray decoding onchip built in, plugnplay wimax support, displayport support, 1067fsb and DDR3 1067 (ouch that stuff is gunna be spensive!) and supposedly runs chips 5-10w+ more efficient.

Well I guess this one is flat dead.... doh

Montevina is scheduled for a June release. Mac I know is on board with this, its just when the others get their hands on it, is when you will see it on the configure page. I know I am so the wait and see starts all over again.

I was hoping that AW would have been smart enough to hold off until they did have it instead of rushing this out to quiet the masses. Now will come the endless can I swap my cpu posts when it is released.

if they wait for this platform then it will be why not this one and etc...you cant wait forever when it comes to a business...

Yes I know but whats a month? I know it can be an eternity with these releases, but if you know that the next gen of cpu is just this close to release why push a new product with old tech? The idea of cutting edge is just that having what everyone is waiting for in one big release.

As for the Montevina it will run much cooler and that could make the difference with the 8800SLI, unless they release the shrinked die version, which would be nice. Then all the chatter about heat will just "evaporate".

But then again if they are counting on a June 3 shipping from what I am seeing on the site, it could be that they may get the Montevinas in time to alert those who are in line to change now and then dump the current cpu selection.

Agreed. I feel they are feeling setbacks, esp with the m15x and the overheating problems. I'm guessing they went through excessive testing with the m17x to make sure that it didn't have similar issues, as a result, this new product is being pushed with old technology. Def. not cutting edge like they claim in the video. However, that's not to say it doesn't beat everything already out there, they're just a couple steps behind. I'm also guessing they have plans for a rehash of their platform.

I cant believe you just said that...... OMFG am I dreaming???
Haha sry man just bustin ur chops, too bad I completely agree with your statement and it saddens me. (The issues at hand, not that we agree haha)

My worst fear is that w/ the Santa Rosa 17x(ahem 1 year late) that they tied resources to that, and that their custom development cycle will be too burdensome to see a montevina refresh anytime soon.
Well its fine if they skip Santa Rosa and jump right into Montevinia ... but who knows if they have plans for that... But their strategy is very strange.

SR was a temporary blip on the screen. People looked, got curious, tried it and said ok where do we go from here. Montevina was in the back of the room waving like mad shouting HERE HERE and was noticed even before the SR Blip faded.

Watch what Sager has lined up for release in June. That is going to turn some heads. And if AW isnt fast enough to get on the ball here, it will be a temporary blip on the screen for the m17.

I really have no idea where you get your information, how you form your ideas, but Santa Rosa was a big performance breakthrough moving to the 800mhz FSB allowing Intels Shinny C2D actually breathe in a mobile platform for the first time, on top of that its been the leading platform for the last year which is unherd of in CPU tech and only b/c AMD hasnt had a competitive product since the pentiumM/first Core1/2 chips ships.

I=Not really sure what blip your talking about, Santa Rosa still has another 6-12 months of legs as monteveina ramps up(and still no solid AMD contender on the near horizon).
Engadget and Daily Tech etc.from what I have read and all the comments I concluded that it was just that a blip on the screen.

I not saying that SR wasnt a big step, it was, but with Montevina so close behind and with yet another change in chip set it held up development of other hardware. Look how long its been since we have had any major hardware upgrades, people are still talking 8000 when we should be in the 9000s already.

And SR did not fly off the shelves so why would manufacturers dump money into SR when they were wating for Montevina?

It is definately going into quad there is plenty of good things yet to come.

Its a shame SR was so short lived compared to other "major" upgrades.

First off, SR was the culmination of a chipset generation and as such was very mature. Montevina is the first of a new generation of chipsets. And I still dont understand how you thinbk Montevina is "so close" behind, SR's have been shipping for over a year as the lead platform, this is unheard of in general in most all of cpu tech with things being replaced on avg of every 3-6 months.

SR short lived???? WTF????

If anything SR is VERY long in the tooth, and has been selling like gangbusters due to the fact that AMD has not had a competitive product for a long time now, intel had no initiative to replace SR quickly when they have no competition.

what is your obsession with SR?

So from what I gather you are:

A Microsoft fanboy
A SR fanboy
A anti-Sony fanboy
A anti-AW fanboy

why are you on these forums again? You defend some things so strangely where almost NO ONE on these forums agree with you.

So from what I gather you are:

Someone who doesnt bring any relevant information to the table(on-topic) but to flame me as a fanboy and antifanboy?

I'm "A MS fanboy" but I was the first person on this board to have (and document howto) run Linux AND OSX on my(a) Sentia...... Pure MS fanboy there.....

I'm "A SR fanboy" but this thread was started by me about the great new things Monte has and how cool it would be if it showed up in the 17x.........

I'm "A anti-Sony fanboy" yet I own a PS3, (2x) PS2's a butt load of games, and although I whole-heartedly felt the original Xbox was superior to the PS2, I have no issue stating "MY" xbox collected dust b/c my 5 favorite games of that Gen were all on PS2. Pure Sony hate for sure.....

I'm "A anti-AW fanboy" but I am a extremely happy AW owner who was instrumental in getting the Sentia subtopic opened on this board before YOU even joined, which I thoroughly supported (probably more than anyone else) for over 2 years while I owned my Sentia. On top of that I have another thread about how Im ready to buy another AW laptop. I MUST be AW's biggest nightmare hater.....

but by all means, this thread was on topic till you decided to start flaming me, so by all means lets flame me some more!

Your continuing to push issues boggles my mind. Just let it go. There's no SR as far as we know. The end.

"There's no SR as far as we know." What does this mean...no SR??

"The End" WTF??? Let what go? That you feel you can do a drive by flame on me because you have mod status and I have no right to get upset with that???
