Notebook + lightning storm..what to do?

Hi

I have a notebook from an aunt of mine that stopped working after a lightning storm that happened near her house. The power adapter seems to work just fine as the LED still gives light when connected to a power outlet but the notebook just sits there...dead. No light, no led, nothing (the notebook that is).

I was wondering what are the odds of fixing it or getting it's technical manuals so that I could disassemble it and try to salvage some of the components (if possible at all). It's an Asus A3AC-5013H.

Also, if anyone has some suggestions as what I could do with it other than throwing it away I'd very much appreciate them

Is is possible to use the lcd standalone?

Thanks

If you contact Asus, they could fix it, although if it's over a year old, it'll probably cost you, since their accidental damage coverage expires after a year.

Really? Damn. When this happened I contacted them but they said it was not covered by the warranty. Now it's too late.

Thanks anyway. Any ideas on how I could salvage anything from it or what could I do with it?

Thanks again.

They just started the free accidental damage coverage last year, so they may not have had it when you bought your notebook.

Sorry, but I have no idea what is damaged in an electrical surge. You could try taking the hard drive out and putting it in an enclosure to see if that's working, but without access to another similar notebook that you could take apart, I don't know what's likely to be fine and what's likely to be toast.
