Buck I am looking at putting a 160gig in my PS3 this weekend if I get around to it I will post a guide.
Thanks dude - I'd appreciate it. The basic steps is all I'll need.

Are the HDs 2.5 or 3.5 inches in these things?

And again - anyone seen a decent bundled deal lately (extra controller, games, etc.)?

OK - so they're 2.5" HDs. Thanks wraithrsw.

There's an MGS4 bundle coming out. If you can still find one, there's a Motorstorm bundled 80GB. Best bet is either a Costco or Sam's Club one. Depends locally I've seen. There are some with extra controller, some with Blu-Ray remote, etc.

I have the Oppo player he talks about in that article. I guess I'll keep it in there.

1) I had problems upscaling some movies i downloaded but I just changed the setting to not upscale it and it look exactly like that same as if a dvd player was playing it

2) I would wait for the larger version to come out just cuz their might be a discount on the 40 but still go for the 40

I'm beginning to think "Maybe I should wait until the new version is released".

Been reading that a 120GB version is due out pretty soon with additional features. Can anyone confirm a release date and exactly what these additional features are?

I think it comes out when MGS4 comes out.

Well - that was easy.

One of the videos stated a 5400RPM HD was recommended because that is the speed of the factory HD. Anyone ever attempted to use (or do you use) a 7200RPM?

What I've have read, some have tried 7200RPM and it has worked. Sony recommends 5400RPM (less heat). The internal cooling (fan) may be enough, but they spec' ed the systems with 5400RPMs (The Cell processor can get pretty warm, especially when Folding).

If you are worried about a performance hit, I don't think it's much difference in the PS3.

Also, the drive needs to be formatted FAT32, the PS3 can't use NTFS. Any thumb drive, memory card or USB external HDD used with it, must be FAT32 also.

Upgraded my PS3 using a Toshiba 320GB drive.
It took about 1 hour 40 minutes to backup 37GB to an external USB HDD.
Replacing the hardware, took about 10 minutes.
Restore to new drive took about 1 hour 40 minutes.

After formatting 320GB=298GB

All system settings were the same as before the swap.

Very nice, I am out of space and it looks like I am going to just put a 160GB in because that is all I have laying around at the moment.

Hey guys - I just picked up the 40GB PS3 from BB. Was going to wait until later this week for the 80GB, but they were giving away $100 gift cards with purchase (to match Wal Mart). I thought that was a pretty sweet deal...

I also picked up Uncharted (Steve raved about this title forever), a BR remote, and an extra controller. The BB sales dude kept sayin' I just HAD to get COD4, even after I told him I already had it for PC.

Edit: So I only have 1 game, but I also have a little over 30 BR movies.

Enjoy it, it's a nice machine!

Lot's of stuff to do with it.

J&R is running a BR movie deal this week:

Titles for $10.99 and $15.99
You need to buy at least 2 movies to get the low prices. They charge $2.95 shipping on the first title and $1 for each succeeding title. No tax.

If you like the Spider-Man 1,2,3 (4-Disc Set), only $34.99!

I think the thing has already locked up on me. I connected it to my home network, started updating, now it
appears to be stuck (after re-booting) on the "Saved Data Utility" folder.

The HD activity light is not on/blinking, but the network is connected.

Is this thing still updating?
