Not steve of course, but the last time I played CSS (maybe a couple months back) there was no monthly fee, hasn't been one since I started playing.

Great news for me. I have half life 2, and I think I just Dl the CSS patch will be ok. Can you provide me a link? Thanks

I don't believe there is a CSS patch persay usually when you install HL2, CSS should be installed with it, then when you open up steam you can download/unpack CSS

Well I tried it at default settings with my processor at 3.4ghz and my vid cards at 645/1613/955 and here are my results;
