Questions about new Laptop

Thread Starter
I am hoping to be able to get a new laptop in the next couple of months. I am looking for a high end gaming DTR platform. I do not have the space for a desktop so I need a laptop {I do not have to worry about it's size or weight}. Nor do I have to worry about battery life as I will always have it plugged in to AC.

I have been looking at the Sager 9262 and the m17X. I have a m5500 and have never had a problem {other than not being able to run graphically intense games at the highest settings} and am partial to Alienware because of it.

The Sager has a 3.0 CPU with a 1333FSB. The Alienware has a 2.8 CPU with a 800FSB. As I understand it, the Sager is a desktop chip and the Alienware is a laptop chip. Can someone explain the pros and cons of each for me? My thinking is that the Alienware might not get as hot but I have not heard of heat problems with the Sager.

I have heard that Vista platforms are not performing as well as XP in games. Is this due to Vista being a memory hog? Will 4GB RAM alleviate this? I've heard that the Vista drivers for SLI are not working right. Has this been fixed? Would Alienware sell me the m17X with XP?

Thank You

Sager: Pro - Really fast
# of HDD
Con - Bigger

Alienware: Pro - Its AW the way you like it
Con - Expensive

Didnt a such a great job comparing them but they very similar. If you are getting 8800 GTX cards with get XP?? It is slower than XP because it uses more reasources due to more futures that come with it. No need to get 4 Gb of ram 2 will be enough. SLI drivers are already up and running with no problems reported. You would probably have to contact them but you will probably be able to get XP but then again why would you??

If you care about the looks go for AW. It looks much cooler.

Sager = Clevo + desktop processor = cooked motherboards.

They'd be saying, even though Sager's sometimes burst into flames, AW charges too much...

I kid, I'm a kidder.

Sager has some good models, but I'd stay away from anything Clevo based that uses desktop processors until they can show they can cool them. AW won't be selling any Clevo products anytime soon...
