ASUS announced the M50S at CES this year, but until now it was squirreled away somewhere. Now ASUS has sent the guys over at PC perspective a test model for review. Though the review is not up as of yet (maybe today maybe tomorrow) They have shown us the specs, and some nice pics.

To overview the specs

CPU-T8100
GPU-GeForce 9500M GS
Optical drive 2x BR reader/DVD burner
RAM-3GB
Screen Size-15.4"
HDD-250 GB SATA
Wireless-abgn + BT
Connections include 3 USB, 1 Firewire, 1 VGA, 1 HDMI, a combo UBS/eSATA, SD slot, and Expresscard slot

Go to PC Perspective to read more and to see some nice pics.

That sounds like the M50Sv-B1, which has been selling for maybe a month or so already at Asus resellers such as GenTechPC. There are 3 or 4 reviews on the A1 model (faster CPU, no Blu-Ray) over at NBR.

Also, Asus has changed the meanings of some of their letter designations. In the circa 2004 M6N and circa 2005 M6V and M7V (otherwise known as the Z70V and Z71V, respectively), the M designation stood for "modular", indicating the presence of a modular bay. On the M50 & M51 series, the M stands for "media", indicating the presence of the in-touchpad media controls.

Yeah this is billed as the multimedia edition. It also looks to have a newer GPU that is billed as having 512 MB VRAM.

the 9500M GS is just an update or revision of the 8600M GT. On average, it performs slightly better than notebooks with the DDR2 version of the 8600M GT and not quite as well as notebooks with the GDDR3 version of the 8600M GT. Asus also is selling a version of the M50 with the ATI 3650, which is a revision of the 2600. While these revisions may draw a bit less power than their predecessors while still having the same performance, we haven't seen a significant new mobile graphics card (i.e. based on a new design or chipset) in any segment since the 8800M.
