I'm fairly certain that if I decide to get one, it will be the 9750. Though I'm sure this won't last too much longer with the new m17x out, so I better make a decision quickly.
The single 8800m GTX card in the m15x performs FAR better than the SLI 7950 GTXs in a m9750.

vcw's m9750 has a single 7950 GTX.

People, go and LOOK at the alienware website!! They no longer offer the 7950GTX in the M9750. You now get either a single or dual in SLI configuration 512MB 8700M GT card. Please do a little homework before you start using out dated info. You only hurt yourself......

Yeah, I looked at the Alienware website. I said 7950 because people were considering getting a used 9750.

But I'm not "hurting myself" because the 8800m GTX is still better than SLI 8700m GTs.

And in terms of performance in dx9 games, a 7950 > 8700.

Ahh....ok....sorry. I didn't know you were referring to used 9750's. I'm talking about getting a brandy new one. And true, an 8800m GTX is better than a single card configuration 8700 GT. However, the dual 8700m GT cards in SLi configuration are close to or better than the performance of a single 8800 GTX configuration. And when you are talking power to price ratio, the M9750 is probably better than the M17x, but ONLY in the price to power ratio, I know the M17x is a better machine because it's newer. However, when thinking logically about whether to spend $2500 or better for the M17x as opposed to an SLi configuration with the M9750 costing just under $2K, the minuscule extra frame rates you will get out of the M17x compared to the M9750 in SLi, is just not worth the money right now.

8800M GTX SLI = 12,390 in 3DMark06
8800M GTX = 9,143 in 3DMark06
8700M GT SLI = 8,164 in 3DMark06

Now 3DMark06 isn't the best way to determine a graphics card's performance, but it is one way.

Ok, I know this is the "alienware" forum, but I also know that a lot of you have owned or do own other systems. I am curious if anyone has heard any gaming info about acer's new Gemstone Blue series? Considering that it comes with a "discrete Geforce 9500M or 9650M 512MB" video, I was wondering if this will be good for gaming or not. Any thoughts? with the dual 8700s.... how does the 9750 do with XP vs Vista?

do the dual 8700s perform better or worse depending on the OS?
