Dell Latitude D600 Series Blue Screen

I have hardly used my laptop since purchasing it second hand in Feb 08 and today a blue screen appeared and said there was a "physical dump" in process.
It said that if it was the first time to turn off the computer. Did that, but when I turned back on I now get messages such as CARDBUS NIC Boot failed. Primary hard disk not found.
No Bootable devices - strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for setup utility.....

Is there anything I can do myself to get the laptop working?.

. remove all external devices and try again?
. if same message, probably the drive was failing
. u can also try to reseat the ram and the drive itself, and see if any improvements
