i9300 power up issues

I know I need a new battery for my 9300, but I haven't bought one yet. I've just kept it plugged in when I used it. But recently it won't start up about 50 percent of the time. I just push the power button and nothing happens. Does anyone know if you have to have a good battery for it to work, or am I looking at another problem?

can u expand a bit more of ur 50% of the time? what did u have to do in these instances? and no, most laptops do not need a battery present to start, as long as the ac is functioning 100%

cheers ...

I believe I figured out the issue. It looks like my power jack is messed up. I've been through two different dell power adapters and they have both broken on me, so I went with a 3rd party two months ago. It looks like a lot of the time these 3rd parties can mess the power jack on the laptop. I wish I knew that at the time.

I've found a few guides on the net on how to fix these, has anyone done this before?

power jack issue is common. search the forum for "power jack", u'll find many inputs about it. may not be for ur model, but the procedures are pretty much the same
