Problems with current MobileForce Vista Drivers

I'm using a dell XPS M1730 with a Core 2 Extreme X9000
and Dual 8800M GTX SLI and Windows Vista Ultimate with SP1.

My first problem is that the most up-to-date drivers from dell don't work with the itunes feature called coverflow. When I use coverflow with dell's drivers, it crashes, freezes my computer (mouse wont move and ctrl alt del wont work) and i have to hold down the power button to get back into windows.

When using
NBF MobileForce VS 174.31
coverflow no longer crashes, however it does run really slow.

(Its important to note that when sli is turned off, coverflow runs flawlessly on both dell and NBF drivers.)

My main problem with the NBF drivers (although getting coverflow and whatever directx mode it uses to run smoothly in sli mode is important to me) is that when i try to connect to my 42inch television, the NBF drivers prevent this from happening, whereas the dell drivers work fine.

(The BNF drivers cause my display to look like it successfully connected, but then the TV remains black, but lit up, as if its connected, but a big black cover has been pulled over everything) I'm connecting with a gold-plated DVI to HDMI cable, for those wondering, to a westinghouse 42 inch 1080P LCD TV.

More specifically, as this may be an indicator of the problem, both dell and NBF drivers ONLY give the option to "use a single display only" under the multiple displays options in the Nvidia control panel, at least while using a Dell XPS M1730. Whereas im pretty sure there should be other options here, such as extend my display onto the TV, or clone my display on both my laptop and my TV, ect ect.

Another thing that might be important to note is that the usual popup from windows mobility center that i perfer to use, titled: "external display detected" that allows you to choose if you want to clone your display, display only on the external display, or extend your display, never pops up.

If my explanations are hard to understand please let me know. I'm only trying to improve the quality of the next release of NBF Mobileforce drivers for windows vista.

You should be able to use the Fn+F8 key combination to either duplicate the desktop on both displays, or switch directly to the TV for use as the primary display.

See if that works, it always does for me.

my keyboard doesnt use that combination. my dell xps m1730 just connects automatically. It does connect, this is important to note, there is just a huge black overlay covering nearly everything up, except for like a sliver at the top of the screen, ill show you with a picture.

<img src = "http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff15/zenithplacidity/black_overlay.jpg">

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/f...ck_overlay.jpg

as you can see, 95% of my desktop is covered with a black overlay type thing. allow me to make an educated guess about what is going on, in order to possibly fix this:

im connecting via dvi to hdmi. I'm gonna go out on a whim here and assume that whatever mobileforce tweaks and mods about the nvidia drivers, they're also messing with part of the code that is hdmi compliant and perhaps this is a way for hdmi to literally cover up an attempt to compromise HDMI standards that try to protect and encrypt the high def format.

just a hypothesis, let me know what you think.

I wanna thank you though, for making drivers that actually work with itunes coverflow properly, its still not as smooth as with sli off, but at least it never crashes!

if that image is really small when you click the link for it, hit refresh because photobucket originally resized it to a thumbnail and i had to delete it and then re-upload.

No, the MobileForce tweaks have absolutely nothing to do with anything regarding connecting external displays, etc. All they are are Direct3D and OpenGL tweaks, so that's not the cause.

Your M1730 does have that key combination, (Fn+F8) as my M1730 does as well. If you're referring to an external keyboard, then no, it wouldn't have it, but, see if NOT using the external keyboard, and using the Fn+F8 combo on the M1730 will fix the issue, as I think it will. I've connected numerous displays to laptops, ranging from TVs to projectors, to LCD monitors, and while it doesn't always work automatically, using the Fn+F8 combo always works.

As you can see in the picture, it does connect successfully. Part of the titlebar for the window i had open when i took the picture can be seen.

a temporary fix for me is that im using an hdmi to vga adapter and connecting via the vga input on my tv. i'd much rather connect via hdmi input though, because the dvi to hdmi cable im using was expensive.

are you using a dvi to hdmi adapter that dell gives you in the multimedia cable kit? because im not. im using a cable that is dvi on one end and hdmi on the other end.

when i have the dell drivers installed, everything works fine. when i have your drivers installed, it does not, as shown in the picture. so there has to be a problem with mobileforce drivers and the way dvi gets translated into hdmi through the cable. i'll record videos of what happens when i have the dell drivers installed and what happens when i have the mobileforce drivers installed, if it would better illustrate the problem...
