precision m6300 with fx3600 benchmarked! - Page 2

reds2k can do the honours if he wants as he has top score, plus the whole spectrum of benchmarks done.

I use the old style colours/setup, I find the light style forum format really garish. The grey tones are mellow

For kicks, played some stalker @ 1920x1200 resolution, quality maximum (comes up with full anisotropic, 1/3 antialiasing, no grass shadows) but object dyanmic lighting (with GPU overclock 660/980)

First reloaded & patched to 1.01 then 1.05, and played start of game around flash drive from nimble mission and then on some, running around.

Fraps gives ~30-40 average FPS Image Quality is excellent. Settings can be tweaked from here to keep IQ and get more FPS, I'll play with that another time, but that much better than the fx3500, where I was at much lower resolution to get decent FPS. I'll try for ~50fps This game runs smooth with lower than usual required FPS because its not a pure first person shooter. Had some texture flashes but no slowdowns so I'll maybe have to back off the clocks a bit for gaming.

Bioshock looks amazing, no fraps yet, but its much faster than stalker because of the engine. If I'd started with it, I'd still be there, played half already but not for months.

Thats about it for now; would be nice if we could pin mod it with electrical tape like diefool did with his quad in the eurocom/sager but (dont think its possible with this motherboard) and 2.8 is fast enough and the fans are noticeably louder between cpu/gpu then the M90 as it is

Recommend the M6300 at a good price. So far, excellent.

(I am running 2nd sata 7200rpm 100gb drive in the DVD slot using an ibm ultrabay slim from ebay; main drive WD320 5400rpm)

cheers

OK Buck, not trying to demean anybody's hard work........was just wondering if this thread was going to be closed in favour of the new benchmark system.....like the fraps thread was.

I'm also not a fan of the light style....finding it bordering on offensively loud and hard on the eye's

Sounds very, very nice ZX81 and reds2k.......I sort of wish I had bought one of these instead of my 1730 considering how much mcad I use and how badly the 1730 runs it....the M6300 sounds like a win,win........very respectable gaming performance and openGL performance that only quadro's give......might think about one in a few months, finances permitted.

Thanks for the info lads, look forward to reading more.

I know you didn't mean to offend - all is OK. I just wanted to let folks know that they put alota work into the BM system.

Steve, individual section mods should be pimpin' the BM system. Maybe we need a new thread in the other section?

For those interested, the dark style is no longer supported - and will soon be replaced by the 'new' dark style. I use the light style due to necessity - and it kills my eyes as well.

Old dark still works though meantime. I look forward to the new dark, I'll use it. Not knocking the forum, theres a lot of cool stuff in the new format that can't see in the old dark, but me ol' eyes

Those CSS benchies are interesting. I think my 7950 GTX gets around 145 fps overclocked (w/ 2.16 C2D) with all the same settings except I had 8X AF. Still though, its impressive considering its an old game that doesn't really take advantage of some of the newer features of 8 series cards. Also, a hidden improvement is the fact that the card should be able to use AA and HDR at the same time, so the 2XAA is nice too. I know this card would let me perform well in games like bioshock, stalker, company of heroes, etc but I still dont know if I'm willing to pay the price. Wonder if the next precision will keep the same form factor?

If Duke aka Steve tells me the source of the picture in his avatar finally and stops avoiding the question, I'll transfer all my old benches to the new system. That will of course mean a temporary use of the new style for me but I guess I can handle it.
I've backed it off to 625/950 and done a little tweaking in stalker settings. FPS is 30-40 and smooth. In the abscence of ATI tool for vista64 I'll run with this for a while and see how it handles.

I am reading the gateway fx thread here and on notebookreview for people's experiences with 8800gts settings. One thing I notice when comparing to the clevo 8800gtx's is that core does change the shader clocks here.

Still in awe of high resolution gaming here, I can now see why people drop the cash into a mega-desktop setup

*I am really getting into stalker now, hopefully this rig runs clearsky (stalker#2) good

So can someone tell me if the motherboard will work on a 1710? Also will the 7900GTX work? But I will need to change the cpu to a socket 479 vs the 478 in the stock 1710 mainboard?
I already addressed your question in post 8

All you had to do was click on the links in my sig.

I've seen that thread before but I always thought that you had the actual image stored on a computer somewhere. Guess I was mistaken.

fangui / ATI tool

First see this thread for boot utility to disable driver signing in vista x64

http://www.notebookforums.com/thread216699.html

Using this I was able to run ATItool and fangui.
I have lowered my overclocks to 600/900 which is just 100 on each over standard clocks. This is not because or artifacting, it can run higher, but because of temperature.

The GPU and CPU run hot (for anyone thinking or purchasing, then x9000 is same clocks but 45mm rather than 65mm so should be cooler) and with 600/900 I see the temp level off in the 90s with fangui toggling fans max

Just in case fangui does not max the rpm, I'll recheck it with bios fan control this weekend.

I noted an 8 deg C temp offset (fangui too low) between hardware monitor and fangui, so set adjustment

I like fangui for setting fans slow as the temp profile stays flat and the laptop stays quiet, under normal work

Damn the CPU side fan is LOUD on max.

Very quick laptop though, just wish it was possible to hardware pinmod the x7900 to run 3.0 from 2.8
I don't have the smarts for that

Is that both the CPU and GPU in the 90's....I ask because I would be unlikely to ever buy an extreme cpu,if its the graphics card your talking about only....does it get that hot at stock clocks?

I've also read that the M6300 with 3600 CAN give something resembling battery life with power saving on......have you tried it out?
Thread Starter
i am seeing 3.5hrs of battery life whilst surfing and watching xvid videos even with screen brightness on 6 out of 8

Thanks for replying reds2k.....thats some pretty amazing battery life for the horsepower in there.

Has anyone thought of flashing the BIOS?

If the FX3600M is the same as the 8800 GTS, than maybe the BIOS will match as well.

The same was with the FX3500M and 7950 GTX.

Anyone willing to give it a go?
so far most people are not sure, if the fx3600 is coming from the gts or gtx card.
my scores are closer to the gtx and gpu-z is not always right.
and i'm not sure if flashing the card would really bring that much improvement.
What was the temperature when overclocked to 660/980 ?
i can't overclock much higher than 620/900, atitool starts showing artifacts from this point.
600/900 is a good artifact free sppot for me.
however, my temps @ 620/900 didn't get higher than ~76°.
3dmark06 @ 620/900 was 9774.
so in my case temps are really fine, only problem is artifacting from a certain clock.
could rise the benchmark score more with cpu oc. but i doubt it's worth the trouble.
