Hard time reading DVD

At times when I put in a movie DVD, it can not be read. It just keeps spinning in the DVD-Rom drive. Sometimes it can take about 5 minutes to be read. Sometimes it can be read later on with no problem. Sometimes Windows media shows "No Response." Is this a software or hardware problem?

P.S. I do clean the DVDs with the spray cleaner. I also clean the lens with a CD that has small brushes attatched. Nothing seems to change the non-reading.

It sounds like a hardware problem. Either your DVD is damaged or your optical drive just isn't reading it. You might want to check to see if there's a firmware update for your optical drive.

Nero has a couple of diagnostic programs available free even if you don't have Nero Burning ROM. They are 'CD-DVD Speed' to test the readability of disks (the 'Benchmark' and 'Scan Disk' tabs work with all drives) and 'Nero Info Tool' that will give you the specs of your drive and system. Google should find them.

Yup, the problem was the hard drive. It has been replaced now. Thank you.
