Replace/Upgrade HD on Toshiba Satellite U405-S2830

i need a laptop and am liking the weight and everything else on this except the 5400rpm hd.
is it possible and would it be advantageous to swap it for a 7200rpm unit?
there should be no problem swapping in a 7200rpm drive. of course all else being equal it will be faster than a 5400rpm drive will be, whether it'll be enough that you can tell a difference will depend on what you'll be doing with the computer.

From different reports back from people who swapped out their 5400's for 7200's on different models, there was very little difference

thanks for the input. even if there is "very little difference"... thats still an improvement. is there anything that a 5400 could do better than a 7200?
is there something faster than 7200 for laptops?
ive never owned a laptop but need one for work and my desktop has 2 raptors, which make 5400rpm drives sound painfully slow.
i build engines for a living which means lots of research and it will also need to run flowbench and dyno software.
thx again

I suppose leaving more money in your wallet....lol. Havent seen anything faster than a 7200. You should be very happy, the T8100 processor, 3G's of memory (max for 32bit OS)and a decent vid chip should do all you want and more. I assume you are going to be dragging this one around with you. If so, I would really consider getting the accident insurance

You would get more battery life with the 5400 RPM hard drive.

The current crop of very high capacity 5400 RPM laptop HDDs, e.g. 250GB+, can access their data much faster than lower capacity 5400 RPM HDDs by virtue of their higher areal density and approach the read/write speeds of a 7200 RPM HDD all without the added costs of a 7200 RPM HDD's increased power consumption, increased heat, noise and vibration and lower capacity.

in all honesty the 320GB 5400 rpm drives are as fast as and in some cases faster than the 7200rpm drives.
