FarCry 2 is using the crysis engine i presume. the game looks awesome but i do hope the game does not get repetitive in the end like the previous one.
Farcry 2 doesn't use the Crytek engine, used in Crysis. Ubisoft designed their own engine for Farcry 2.

the engine is called Dunia

I know my stuff duke, thought you knew that.
oops........my mistake.........though you got to admit the engine does look very similar to the Crysis engine.

Well the first Farcry did use the first cryENGINE. I'm sure ubisoft took alittle something something from crytek. FarCry 2 will also utilize all four cores of a Quad core cpu, just like Crysis.

I loved the first Farcry and I'm looking forward to both.

I've only watched like 2 minutes of the demo but it seems like they're trying to take the approach that The Getaway took with user interface and gaming interface (no icons, medkits, etc). I don't think it was implemented too well in The Getaway (first one at least, I think there are 2) but I got used to it after awhile. I'm a fan for no mutants though. Its getting kind of old that in every FPS there are mutants and beasts. What happened to good ole fashioned violence?

Edit: Oh yeah, and for some reason I'm loving the pullout map
post #15 of 51
That's what I hated about the first FarCry. The trigens. The little mutant monkey ones were just all out creepy and always snuck up behind you. Then there were the big ones with rocket launchers for arms (total ripoff from Unreal) That took all your ammo to beat, those were annoying. I HATE not being able to kill everything in the game.
Far Cry was and still is one of the harder FPS ers IMO along with GRAW

And I agree, the trigens are pretty annoying, especially as they can jump 40 ft and inflict massive damage to you.....having played this game lots of times, its quite good fun to lure trigens into water where they drown, same goes for the big boys, but they are a bit more reluctant to follow.

But like you guys,I'm hoping FC2 has moved on from such sillyness.

i agree its a difficult game. but i think that is because of the poor AI and the enemies ability to be able to track you through the jungle/walls... that shouldn't be possible

Far Cry's AI was herald as ahead of it's time.

Once you've gotten the hang of things, it's hard not to be impressed with the AI of Far Cry's enemies. Basically, if you can see them, they can see you, and that means big trouble. Sometimes they'll come running at you, sometimes they'll bring friends, and sometimes they'll sound alarms. Enemies will circle around you, and they'll even get in vehicles and chase you down. Some of the creatures you encounter later in the game will often come leaping right at you the second you're spotted, so while Far Cry is a first-person shooter first and foremost, it's often best to stay out of sight until you're sure you can get in the first shots or the area is safe. Overall, the AI provides a nice ebb and flow to the combat and adds real tension to the game, and that's pretty good in our book.

If you sneaked around the jungle and they didn't see you, you could literally walk around every single one of them. It's not poor AI, it's just really really smart AI.

so explain the wall tracking! that to me is bad AI i dont care what review said its great.

good AI is in STALKER. you can backtrack and flank your enemy and they still be looking in the direction they last saw you.

I don't remember any wall tracking, I finished the game 3 years ago. I do remember if they heard and would continue to hear you, they basically knew where you were.

Wall tracking...
