The failer maybe from shipping. The HDs are build with a "parking" since early 90s, so most of time the HDs still good. I think it might be the mobo problem. That is also why I suggest you to check the BIO see if the RAID is healthy.
Have you try what I suggested you? You got to at least try to see it. Otherwise, why are you bother to ask?
If you still have no idea at all how to check, then just return it back to Dell. Save yourself some troubles. Believe me, I spend alot of time on RAID few months back on the desktop system. It is a nightmare. I told myself stay with one HD only.
My M1730 shipping with RAID, and I am lazy to reinstall everything. But I made a backup copy, so if the RAID fail, I probably do one HD only and leave another HD for datas.
