DVD X Copy issues

Hi everyone. I'm probably an idiot but I'm just starting out trying DVD X Copy Express and I can't seem to get it to actually rip the Movie. It will read it all and then the program just disappears. When I look at the temp dir, there's nothing in the Audio folder, though the Video folder is generally pretty full. Is this some sort of copy protection on the DVD itself (I'm trying Moulin Rouge) or is there something messed up with my program's config/computer?

Any thoughts would be great!

Alrighty... I used the advanced mode in Platinum and got a working copy. However, is it possible to select just one audio track to save on space / compression issues with the DVD?

Interestingly enough, while the DVD won't play for PowerDVD in the computer, it will play in the Xbox. Go figure.

i know dvxcopy is a decent fast program, but the anoying bacup message it puts on copies was annoying to me.

google for dvdshrink, its a free program that does everything dvdxcopy does, just make sure to install the dem of nero 6, that is how dvdshrink burns the movies after shrinking.

every now and then dvdshrink can't rip a movie, that is when you use another free program called dvddecrypter to rip it to the hardrive, then you use dvdshrink to shrink it from its new location

I know you asked for help on dvdxcopy, but if you give the above programs a try, I promise you won't be disapointed. it generally takes me about 50+ minutes to do the entire process from rip to burn with a 4x burner

Hi Crazy,

Thanks for the tip! I'm running a trial test of DVD Shrink now. If it does everything it looks like it does in the ReAuthor mode, I should be a very happy camper!

Thanks for the tip!!

I second DVD Shrink + Nero. I tried DVD X and it sucks a$$. It is very easy to use and you can select what goes into the dvd and what the compression is.

It is one of my can't live without video editing programs along with TMPGenc

I have been using DVD Shrink, which does an excellent job if you want to compress a movie onto 1 DVD disc, and CopyWare 3.0, which will make an exact copy of a DVD onto 1 or 2 discs depending on the size of the original disc file. Both do great jobs albeit one is free and the other cost me $50. I don't know anyone who likes or has had success with Xcopy in any of their extremely expensive versions.

I will "fourth" the dvdshrink option. It worked very nicely for me AND IT'S FREE!! Of course whenever you "compress" a DVD onto a single 4.7 DVD/R the quality will not be the same as the original. Especially on a nice widescreen HDTV running a progressive scan player. But it is still nice to make *backup* copies of your current collection!

I have to completly agree. I tried purchasing software for this purpose and ended up with more problems. I had found the method that you described on another forum a little while ago and it works great.
