Extending the life of my m5550i w/a cpu upgrade.

Thread Starter
This weekend I'm upgrading the cpu on my Alienware m5550i from it's original 2.0 GHz Core 1 Duo T2500 to a 2.33 Ghz Core 2 Duo T7600. I've already updated my BIOS to Rev 2.07W, which also allows me to run 4 gb of memory (3.25).

It's something I can do myself, but if I call AW in order to talk me through my cpu upgrade, would that help keep my warranty. The warranty expires this coming August.

I called Alienware last week, to see what was left to buy for the m5550i, which is virtually nothing, and ordered the last remaining 9 cell battery for the m5550i. They had one (1) new T7600 cpu in stock, which they still wanted over $700 for. I didn't buy it. Instead I went and bought a used one off of ebay for $305, which is still too much, but it is better than well over $700.

Why are the FSB 667 MHz mobile cpu's more expensive than the 800 MHz mobile cpu's? I bought a brand new retail T9300 for my Gateway P-6831 FX laptop for something like $350, a couple of months ago, yet a brand new T7600 is still running for well over $700?

Anyway, I'll post some pictures of the upgrade, should anyone be interested.

Sounds good GoHack. Eventhough, I've parted ways with my m5550
I'm still interested in it, and still like it a lot. Can't wait to see the pics.
