well been thinking of going for a new setup, and for the first time in many many years I am going with an Intel CPU based package.

So I now have the following in Canadian $$$

LG CGW-20 HD-DVD ROM/Blu Ray BD-R/RW Drive $ 202.50
Intel Q9450 CPU $ 318.00
Gigabyte X48 - DQ6 $ 359.00
Silverstone Strider ST1000 1000W Modular Power Supply $ 239.99
2 x OCZ Reaper Hpc Edition PC2-8500 DDR3 4GB 2X2GB DDR3-1333 CL 9-9-9-20 Dual Channel EPP Memory Kit $ 175.00 x 2 after rebate
VE2000BWS Thermaltake Armor LCS VE2000BWS - Full tower Case $ 278.00
2 x HIS 4870x2 Video Cards in Crossfire $ 1317.29
2 x Seagate Barracuda 7200 RPM 1TB Sata Drives $ 299.21
1 x LG Sata DVDR / RW Drive $ 38.95
1 x Swiftech MCR120-QP-RES Quiet Power Single 120MM Water Cooling Radiator Going to use for the CPU / MB Cooling setup $ 40.00

Next Phase will be the GPU water cooling which will entail the following, and be indepandant of the already installed CPU / MB Water Cooling

2 x EK Water Blocks 4870x2 $ 169.00 USD Each Soon to be in stock.
1 x Koolance RP-1000BK Pump / reservoir Combo Unit $ 207.00 USD
As Req Fittings, Tubing, Cooling rad will be the built in Rad for the Armor Case which is a Dual 120 CM Fan version.

This will also be a water Cooled Setup. thus the Thermaltake case above.

The Water cooling will be setup as two separate systems. One for the Motherboard, and a second indepandant for the GPU water blocks.

I will be doing is reverting back to 3/8 tubing, as I found that 1/2 tubing is too much of a pain, let alone the pressure drop I have noticed in the cooling system.

So now the Pics

Here is the case

Can't wait to see this unfold Dave

I suggest waiting on the GPU's. I mean the 4870's are supposed to be very nice cards so why go with second rate when first rate is just around the bend!

that LG drive seems to be very popular lately

Seems to be a ton of them on E bay these days

And since I got mine for $200.00 figured what the heck go for it.

They did include one BD-RW 25 GB disk along with the HD Video player with the package so not too bad of a deal.

I'm looking forward to this.

You asked above about buying 3870x2 vs. waiting for the 4870x2. If possible, wait. I believe they're just around the corner.

I wouldn't let it hold you up though....buy a cheap GPU if you're ready to get it up and running.

the parts except the ram have shipped from NCIX yesterday, the new Case should be in by Friday.

I am heading out of town for the rest of May anyways so I will most likely wait for the next Gen ATI card.

So hopefully by mid June or so I will have it up and running.

I also hope the new ATI 4870x2 cards get a Water Cooling block quickly as well, I am definitely going that route.

I been thinking of using two seaparate water cooling setups, one for the GPU and one for the CPU and MB.

The new case has a built in Water cooling system which I will dedicate for the CPU and MB.

Well most of my parts are in now

I was very surprised just how small the Q9300 Quad CPU is, and the Socket LGA 775 foot print.

Kind of scares ya, when you see the big colored noat from DFI stating incorrect CPU install = Voided Warranty lol.

$340 for two HD3870's or $1000 for 2 HD4870x2's.

Hrm. I wouldn't call the price to performance ratio of the 3870's second rate. I could be biased since I have two 3870's in crossfire right now, but I'll just say they run everything I throw at it very nicely. And for $660 less than 2 4820x2's.

Age of Conan highest settings @ 1920x1200 w/ no lag.

Actually from what I have seen so far the new 4870 cards will be way ahead of the 3870 and of course the x2 Dual GPU cards are even Faster.

you math is a little off there btw

2 x 3870 singl;e GPU card is about the same price as one 3870 x2 GPU card.

and to get two x2 GPU cards ould be the same as 4 x single GPU cards

So price wise I am spending is not that much different, point being I am gong to run a Quad GPU setup, as the project is a High End Power Build.

Not to say the 3870's are bad, it's just that if you wanted to build the absolute best rig possible (which is Dave's purpose) then you would of course wait for the 4870's and pay for the premium.

The 3870's will naturally be slower, thus worse than the 4870's. I'm also playing Age of Conan by the way got my 8800GT running it at 1920x1080

Yeah, I just noticed that. For some reason I read 3870x2 as (2) 3870's and 4870x2 as the single card/two processor model.

I hadn't finished my morning coffee yet I s'pose.

It seems that people either love it or hate it. Because the graphics demands are so high, much of the game is instanced (there is no ability to just run straight through the whole continent) and there are still some release issues, but that's natural for MMO releases.

I personally think it's a great game, right now there is apparently a bunch of post level 40 content until you get to 50+, but I'm sure they'll get to patching up the game and adding loads of new stuff

I'm enjoying it quite a bit. It's definately a nice break from WoW. I finally found a class I LOVE (Bear Shaman) and hit 24 tonight.

Will it replace WoW? I don't know. None of my RL friends I play WoW with can afford the hardware required to run Conan, so I'm having to play primarily by myself.

The combat is a refreshing change from any other MMO I've played. Content is pretty much the same though. Go here.. kill this.. gather that. Wash, rinse, repeat.

And any game where the chick toons are this hot, is OK by me!

Very nice I just started a bear shaman and it's a level 7, although my main is a Guardian @ level 30
