well been screwing around all he day yesterday with the new I7 CPU and the ASUS X59 Mobo

First the BIOS wqas old and could not boot up properly. Kept getting BIOS errors. That took hours of playing until I was able to sucessfully flash the memory with the lastest BIOS file.

Now I find the errors were in part with the new Corsair Memory one of the chips is bad....Sigh

By the way anyone going I7 your old DDR3 memory may not be compatible with the X58 motherboards. Voltage specs inducate they must be less than 1.7 volts to wotj with the Intel CPUS.

So the work continues today

I can confirm by they way that not all DDR3 memory is compatible as my OCZ Reaper memory would not work in this X58 Mobo.

You need to get some good tri-channel memory. 3,6,12 gb kits.

yeah I have one 6 GB kit arriving today

But I have been screwing around wwith this ASUS MB for days now, and it seems that the ICH10R drivers are not XP 64 Bit compatible, even though they are listed as such. I can't get a raid config to work, drivers causing BSOD. and rrros during Windows install.

I can set the drives to IDE - Compatiblity mode and works fine.

The Marvell CHipset RAID was no better,

Think I am going to toss the POS ASUS and go back to the Gigiabyte brand

had similar issues with my p45, had to stick to IDE mode, its frigging annoying

*nice to see the forum active, drooling at the new builds

Well I finally managed to find some drivers that worked.

Got the new ASUS P6T and Intel I7 920 working with 6 GB of triple channel memory

Bench marks to follow

I also discovered that the Corsair triple channel memory I recieved would not work with the GIGABYTE Mobo, but the plain old DDr3 2 Gb Corsir kit I have would.

Seems like memory for the X58 Mobos is buy only what the Manufacter has already tested. Not all triple channel is the same.

Finally got hold of Koolance and they are sending me a new RP-1000BK pump/reservoir unit as well. So when i get back from Sweden in 2 weeks I can have the I7 920 CPU water cooled in time for Christmas Gaming Season lol

oh yeah and I ordered a second 6 GB triple channel DDR3 kit for the fun of it.

once I have the CPU water cooling in place I will see if I can get the reported 3.8 Ghz OC speed with it
post #155 of 205
Hey dave... Have you ever looked into getting into more custom water cooling? You could get a lot better pump and a reservoir separately and at a better price point. Just a thought good buddy ol pal.

12gb?!

I have the Thermaltake Pump and tank along with the dual rad etc which I am using for the two GPU cards.

I wanted a seperate system for the CPU and also wanted the front panel interface which would allow me to monitor the temps etc.

The Koolance unit will also allow me to monitor the GPU temps as the unit has 3 temp sensor inputs.

Space was also a consideration and this unit takes one 5.25 inch drive bay slot. so all in all I fits my needs. I guess we'll see how good the pump is when I install it.

The Dual 4870x2 cards eats up alot of space in my full size armour case

SO here are the updated pictures

Pic 1. - The New Koolance RP 1000 BK Pump Assy.

Pic 2. The New Swiftech GTZ Water block and the I7 Adaptor Kit.

Pic 3. Shot of the original Intel CPU Cooler, It sucked lol

Pic 4. The GTZ is installed and new plumbing run. Used a rad which is installed in the back exhaust port of the Armor case.

Pic 5. Nice Close Up of the GTZ, The 12 GB of DDR3 in just to the right

Pic 6. The Koolance Pump from the front of the case. This assembly primes easily, and seems to have excellant fcoolant flow. You can see the Temp of the liquid system.

You also see the new Resorvoir I installed for the GPU cooling system as the ThermalTake tank was leaking on me. At least this way I can easily monitor the coolant level, and avoid the issues I had before where I reached high temps when I ran low on coolant lol.

Last thing to do is modify the case cooling to do a better job exhuasting the warm air from inside the case.

Looking good, Dave.

Those GTZ blocks are nice aren't they. Love the fact that you don't have to take the motherboard out to change or reseat the CPU.
