Battery light (orange) flashing

I have a Gateway 7322GZ Notebook, I recently replaced the dead battery. Now the battery light flashes. If I unplug it and plug it back in the light stays on, as it should. I did the batter reset procedure, it took 2 hours for it to drain. For a few days the light worked as advertised, but now it is flashing again.

tried another ac adapter?

The adaptor is relativly new, only about a year old. The battery is fully charging, when I drained it, it lasted over 2 hours.

. ac: power jack connection? (providing that ac is good, new or old should not play any roles)
. battery: did u lock it in place? some looseness somewhere in the housing?
