250GB 5400 or 160GB 7200 HD which one?

Hey guys, I was currently deciding on 2 particular configurations for a 1530
one with 250g 5400 hd and the other 160g 7200 hd.
the 200GB 7200 is on back order 10days +

other specs:

Intel T8300
4GB DDR-2 RAM
160GB 7200 RPM or 250GB 5400 RPM Harddrive
GeForce 8600M GT 256 MB DDR-2
Intel Next-Gen Wireless
Bluetooth
LCD TrueLife TFT 1680x1050

Does any one have the 250HD how does it perform? same with the 160hd?
which do you guys think is the better choice?
Thanks for the help guys?

The areal density somewhat makes up for lower rotational speed of the 250GB drive. That being said however, it is slower. But for most uses it would not be that noticeable, the main difference come in disk intensive applications, moving files, etc... It is a trade-off decision you'll have a to make... a little bit slower for a lot of extra storage space...

Gaming you are not going to notice much (if any) difference between the 250GB 5400rpm and the 160GB 7200rpm. This is because the majority of work is done by the processor, graphics card and system memory. The only area you would possibly see a difference is in loading times for levels/ areas/ etc in certain gaimes... but this would be minimal.

If you are not going to fill even 160GB, then I would go with that. But if you would definately make use of the extra space, and would welcome an extra few minutes of battery life (the 5400rpm will be a little less power hungry) then go with the 250GB one.

Any chance you can change that order? A 200GB 7200rpm drive will be significantly faster than a 160GB drive.

The 200GB 7200rpm drives are 3rd generation 7200rpm notebook drives will be around 10%-15% faster than the fastest 5400rpm drives, and 2nd generation 7200rpm drives (120GB and 160GB sizes). If you're really looking for speed on a mechanical drive, spend the extra cash and get a 200GB 7200rpm drive.

for some reason they don't offer the 200gb 7200 only the 250gb 7200rpm which has been on back order for a while. so not much choice on the 1530 other a 320gb which pushes me over my price limit.

Thanks for the input kent
