Hey, I got a Dell 1705 it since has been doing some really really uncool stuff. Like I'll be playing a game and it pauses with a click sound and sometimes I swear the darn thing is shocking me when I touch its side. It could be static electric but it seems to happen a lot. But, away I tried a friends Dell ac power plug and all the same stuff happens. Anyone know what the deal is or maybe how to prevent what's happen????? Using the computer isn't as cool as it used to be.... Someone helppppp

- thanks a bunch

Mine has always done that. The pause with a click is the hard drive and the shocking seems to be a normal thing with a slight build up of static electricity. The pause usually only occurs when the computer is jarred or bumped and is the normal functioning of the hard disk protection as far as I can tell.

I suggest you try and get a 3 prong power lead if you have not got one. Im in the uk and i have never had any shock from my laptop. The click & pause may be hard drive related

I am using a 3 prong adapter. Any other ideas? Hey, so ya think that clicking means the hard drive is done for?

- Thanks

Its certainly possible the hard drive is on its way out, have you done a thorough test?

The embedded diagnostic test said everything passed. Is that thorough enough?

I have had two M1710's that would shock me. Both were replaced by Dell through my warranty. My M1730 never has shocked me

You could search to dig up my old threads...

I would try and get it replaced if its under warranty as dave-p. Your computer should not be shocking you.

Shocks + Computers = Trouble.

Static discharges will kill your computer.

If it is a problem with your power brick get it replaced.

If it's because your not using a properly grounded electrical system get it checked.

If your in a very dry environment, then address that issue.
