Hi,
my English isn't perfect, but I'll try to describe the best I can what just happened to me ~1 hour ago with my lappy ->
Inspiron 9400/E1705
Quadro FX 2500M @ 600/725MHz
130W Power Supply
Core 2 Duo "Merom" 2.16GHz
2Gb DDR2-667
WUXGA+ 1920x1200 with an external LG L1951S 19" LCD screen (for gaming)
Windows Vista Business SP1 X86 (French) / Windows XP Pro. SP3
I was playing Gears of War for about ~15 minutes when the game suddenly became "laggy" (like 10-12FPS) si I leaved the game and came back. SAME lag at the same place again after ~30 seconds of gaming.
I decided to reboot completely the computer to see what would happen, and I launched the game for the third time! What did happen? Green bars all over the screen, with red and blue dots for about ~5 seconds, than a blank screen!
I rebooted the computer by holding down the power button, and there was artefacts all over the POST screen (blue and red dots, color "boxes", distortion and artefacts like that). When I tried to boot into Windows, it would show the "loading meter green bar" (the only screen that wasn't corrupted), then I was unable to see the Vista logon screen (blank screen every time).
I though the video card coul be overheating so I opened the laptop and put some new thermal compound(?) (AS5) on the GPU. I then tried to boot Vista in Safe Mode and I was able to log in (with networking support). In fact, everything seemed to be ok (no screen corruption / artefacts) for about ~10 minutes, and Pouf! same blue and red dots again all over the taskbar and in dark regions of the screen. ARGHHH
I uninstalled the video drivers (in Safe Mode) and I was then able to log in in Windows normally (Not in Safe Mode), except that I didn't have any hardware acceleration (no Aero, no transparency) but still, the artefacts remained. I leaved the laptop like that, on the desktop, went outside for a while (maybe 2 hours), and when I came back, the artefacts were gone!
I rebooted and logged in into Windows again. No artefacts, everything was perfect! I installed the new ForceWare (175.70) from Laptopvideo2go, rebooted again, and I'm now writing this message with my laptop, without any artefacts or strange behavior. Aero is activated, the games I tested (Gears of War, CRYSIS, BioShock and StarCraft) worked perfectly too...
For your curiosity, I'm monitoring the temperatures right now, and I get:
I8kfanGUI
CPU: 35c
GPU: 40c
MEM: 40c
Chipset: 37c
HDD: 28c
GPU-Z
GPU: 48c
In full load, the GPU reaches ~70c. Is it normal? May it have caused the artefacts I had this afternoon?
How is it possible? Do anybody ever had this kind of experience with a Quadro FX 2500M / 7900GTX? Is it reasonable to assume that my video card isn't going to die in the next 2 weeks?
Again, sorry for my bad English. I hope you'll have interesting explanations and answers for me
Thank you, have a nice day!
