Reformating help with a 9300

Hey guys. Well its been a while since I have been around these parts. My trusty old 9300 is going strong. It is running kinda hot though (55 celc on Idle) but I have never opened it up and cleaned it in the past 4 years, so I am going to do that pronto. Now on to the important part.

Good old XP needs a reformat but the problem is that I am not 100% sure how to do it. I have an .iso of Windows I can use, and I get that I have to boot from that. What I dont understand is how/when to install all the drivers that I will need. Also I dont know where/which ones to download. I go to the dell site where it lists them all, but for example I have the 6800 and there are no drivers listed for it.

Can anyone help me out?

You need to burn the ISO image to a cd via sonic or nero (whatever you have installed). Then boot off the CD and it will search for another version of windows. Since you have a copy just hit enter (I believe) and then install on a usable partition (what I usually do is delete the windows partition and and recreate it using a full ntfs format). From there let windows install and then once installed add only the most basic driver (for me network card only). Then install all service packs first (SP3 in this case), other updates, and then the other drivers.

I took a look at dells site and they have the drive listed for the 6800go. Here is the link if you need it:

Smooth hit it right on. Also if you're under warranty by any chance, you could just ask for a disc pack if worse comes to worse with all you'll need.

Thanks for the help guys!

I have a few questions. One is so I boot from the CD and then once XP starts do I then instal the drivers? Or when do I do that?

Also a noob question. This wipes everything from my HD correct?

Also I have been running the 80.40 Drivers on my card. Should I update them to a more recent driver from laptopvideo2go?

When you start, you'll press F12 and boot from the CD drive. Then it'll guide you into installing on a drive (pick the big one that has all of your data). This will then erase everything from the HD.

You can update or not on the drivers. To be honest whatever Dell has is pretty stable.
