Mind you the two sources you linked are actually just one, which was a report from the Wall Street Journal based entirely on speculation. Cnet has official word from Dell that this is not the case.

Dell is merely focusing more attention to alienware and propping that brand up a bit more. They've practically ignored Alienware since they bought them.

There does appear to be redundancy in the Dell / Alienware business model. As long as they are separate entities, there may not be a way around that.

The two articles you linked are dated May 12th the One I linked is dated May 13th and has CNet speaking with an official representative of Dell.
