Laptop help please!?

Thread Starter
hey guys this is my first post, im trying to figure out a good laptop.
i ordered an hp9700t and got it in the mail the other day, the day after i got it it crashed. Im kinda looking for a good laptop that will run fast and run pretty much any game, at least on decent settings. here are the specs of the dv9700 i got from hp...

- Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo Processor T9300 (2.50 GHz, 6 MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB)
- 17.0" diagonal WXGA+ High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1440 x 900)
- 3GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
- 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M
- FREE Upgrade to HP Imprint (Radiance) + Fingerprint Reader + Webcam + Microphone
- Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 4965AGN Network Connection
- 240GB 7200RPM SATA Dual Hard Drive (120GB x 2)
- LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-RW with Double Layer Support
- No TV Tuner w/remote control
- 8 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
- Microsoft(R) Works 9.0
- HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope

ive got kinda fed up with them while talking to them about sending me another one, so i was trying to figure out if i should get another one or just get my money back...I was looking at the Gateway P 172s fx, only about $100 more than i spent on the hp. heres the specs for the gateway:

Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor2 T5750 (2.00GHz, 667MHz, 2MB L2 cache)
Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium (32-bit) SP1 3072MB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM (1-1024MB & 1-2048 MB module) 160GB 7200rpm Serial ATA hard drive w/ 8MB cache5 8x Multi-Format Dual Layer Slot Load DVD-RW w/ DVD-RAM
NVIDIA® GeForce® 8800M GTS with 512MB of GDDR3
Intel® PM965 Chipset 17.0" WXGA+ Ultrabright TFT Active Matrix (1440 x 900 max. resolution) Integrated 1.3 Megapixel Web Cam Integrated Realtek 802.11b/g Wireless Networking

i know the video card is much better on this one. The only thing that worries me about it is the 2.00ghz processor. This is my first laptop so i dont know much about them. Are processors something that you can upgrade on your own?

If anybody can help me out here i would greatly appreciate it. I basically just need to know is the difference in processors will make a huge difference or if it would be worth changing from the hp.

Also my budget is around $1300 maybe a little more if they offer student discounts. If you know any other laptops that would be better than any of these 2 that i listed let me know...thanks in advance

It is possible to upgrade a CPU on your own. It's not that difficult and there are probably guides somewhere to help you. The first CPU is much more powerful than the 2nd CPU so you would probably be seeing better performance on the first notebook, even with the lesser graphics card.
