Thanks for covering the questions james. But yeah, I wouldn't use a TV Tuner in the air anyway.

#6 on that thing. Gotta use a cable of some sort to get the signal, of course.

10. The "CD Player"

The "CD Player," I don't know what else to call it, is the ability of the 8887 to play CDs without the use of the processor. I brought the laptop to Dallas and it came in handy on the airplane. Of course, it doesn't drain the battery as much, and so it lasted a long time.

I figured out that you don't have to have the laptop on in order to have the CD tray ejected: just turn it on, and press stop a few times and it'll pop out.

I'm having a bit of trouble with my USB mouse, the really cool round one I got at Target for fifteen bucks. You know, this one:

Just today, it went a bit haywire and stopped working. I'm thinking maybe it'll go away by tomorrow.

Tomorrow, also, I'll be putting up some CS screenshots with netstat on, due to the request of a member here. I don't like the ones I have, but I'll put em up anyway.

Yet another...
Screenshots update.

4 Counter-strike screenshots up, they're at 1/4 their normal size (1/2 width, 1/2 length) so if you're viewing it at 1600x1200 details might be hard to see.

Netstat is on, you can see the nice fps I'm still getting on 1600x1200. Most are exactly 72, but the bomb explosion is a little less.

URL is, as always, http://www23.brinkster.com/denkc/half_life.html

If you turn all the settings in the ati control panel to performance you get 100 FPS constantly, even during explosions, and I couldn't tell a difference in image quality at all.

Cool. Uh. How do I get that? I think I'm using old drivers, couldn't get the newest catalyst to work.

I'm getting tired of HL screenshots. As soon as HL2 comes out, screenshots of those will be up.

Here are the drivers I am using. They are the latest one available from Sagers web site. Also, the only difference in our lappys is the processor, so this might give me a few more FPS, but I doubt it. You should be able to get 100 with the newest drivers.

pft your eyes cant tell the difference between 60 and 129348192834709128374 so it doesn't matter, the only thing that would matter is if you were to drop below 30, and that is when the server starts giving you lag. But if you stay at 72 all the time, then you should have a problem with lag or with it not running smoothly.

P.S. Thank you for the screenshots (greatly appreciated)

Yeah, I still play at 30 fps on my old computer sometimes. It feels so crappy when I do.

But yeah, you're right, you can't tell any difference. Come on, it's "frames per second."

Have you ever taken a digital camera and looked at a crt monitor through the digital viewer? You can actually see refresh rate. Kinda. I just thought that was cool.

Thanks Wisefish, and no problem jcc2k4.

Yes, very soon infact. Adam announced that the new modles (5680 and 8890) with the 9600 mobile (also known as the M10) will be released late July-early Ausust, so to final details will be announced any day now.

Also you don't have to "avoid" hyper threading, you can simply turn it off in the BIOS.

11. My First Real Problem

All right, after a few months, I've run into a slight problem. The power supply has crapped out on me. It'll only work if I pull it up.

It probably happened while I was transporting my laptop around from my house to a friend's.

So while I was trying to fix it, I managed to get my keyboard screwed up a little bit. I found out the problem pretty fast; the part where the ribbon connects to the motherboard wasn't fastened in. So i pushed the two little "handles" in to fasten it, assuming that it would do so, and it did. So a problem I created on my own is now solved. Yay.

The power supply problem probably has something to do with the fact that whenever I use my power cord, it's pushed to one side too much. But it shouldn't create the problem like that.

Anyway, if anyone knows how to solve it, please let me know, otherwise I'll just have to keep recharging by pulling the cord up.

Edit:
Well all right...found the problem, the thing melted. The power supply ... thing. I'll post it later in a picture.

Oi, looks like the first real flaw in Sagers are the power supply. Your power supply crapped out, someone else's pulled apart. I've heard of others melting and things as well. Looks like I'll be looking for a real heavy duty power switching power supply when I get my sager...

11 (part 2) Problem Update

I PMed Adam about it, he said that Sager would send a replacement power supply.

So maybe it's a flaw, but at least they've got ya covered. I've emailed Sager about it and eagerly await their response.

I'll still put pictures up though.
Cool, so it got resolved quickly. That's one BIG plus. Still, I'd feel rather deprived if suddenly my laptop ran out of power and the power supply was dead... I'd probably still opt to go find a commercial power supply for the thing, just in case.

Yeah, it does kinda suck, but at least I'm not payin 90 bucks to get it replaced.

Here's the picture I promised. It's terrible quality, a bit out of focus, and it's on something fiber-y.

If you can't tell what the fat blurred part in front of you is, that's the fused-togetherness of the first two prongs.

This is on the other end of the part that connects to your computer. The little metal part ... you know.

Sorry 'bout the quality of pic.
Yeah, someone else on the forums here had the power connector break and it also shorted out the power supply and caused it to melt.

Hopefully this issue will be fixed with the new 5680/8890 systems.

Err, it melted, so then it wouldn't work. When it melted, then it fell out. Not a great thing to have happen.

Anyway, David at Sager emailed back and told me that it could be replaced; he just needed my Serial Number on the laptop.

My replacement AC Adapter came today, woohoo. I sent it off on ... what, Wednesday, came today, Tuesday.

So...problem solved, and all it cost me was $6.95. $4.75 for cost of shipping + $2.20 insurance. Had it insured for 90 bucks.
