Tips/quide to taking apart m505XX?

Ok guys I just ordered a 1.7Ghz Pentium M so I'm curious to those who have taken the laptop apart before. I have taken apart every laptop I've owned and I know the general design already.

Basically what I'm thinking the plastic bezel just above the keyboard pops off then it will reveal some screws and pull up the keyboard. From the Pics I've seen it looks like the processor sits right below the quick buttons on the right side. So it appears that the entire top plastic bezel including the touchpad will have to be removed which I can only assume can be removed after removing enough screws out of the bottom. Like with "snaps" all around the side.

Post your results when you get the processor (if you don't mind). I for one thought that the processor was soddered to the Mobo. If I can upgrade this thing, I'll be happier than...[insert analogy here]

Let us know if you decide to upgrade to Mini PCI WiFi Adapter at the same time as the processor upgrade.

BTW I was looking up the specs on Intel's site. I find it quite intresting that...

Intel Pentium M...
1.3 & 1.4 has a thermal spec of 22.0W
1.5 & 1.6 & 1.7 has a thermal spec of 24.5W

If you look at the P4s etc the thermal spec goes up with the higher the clock. Anyway I just found that intresting.

Anyway my CPU should be at the house tonight so I will attempt to upgrade this sucker tonight. I didn't realize that people thought it was soldered into the mobo. I highly doubt that is true however. I've taken apart a couple Centrino based laptops and they have been socketed. (not ZIF btw, you know laptops have screwy socketing methods). You usually only see soldered CPUs on ultra thin/tablets. I don't exactly see the m505 as being too ultra thin its quite large.

Also I am looking to upgrade the wireless in my 505 however I am going to wait a bit. Intel Pro Wireless 2200s are not readily available yet. So I will wait a bit. Besides all of my wireless equipment is 802.11b anyway. I really want to preserve my Centrino wireless power savings functionality. And I know it works Compaq is running the X10xx with 855PM chipsets and Intel 2200 wireless.

Humm ok I got the processor. However, I've run into quite a snag. I took apart most of the laptop but jebus. To get the heatsync/fan out you need to remove the entire top bezel. Not only this but in order to remove the top bezel you need to remove or at least take off the LCD from the mount. And I did determine that the CPU is socketed. Therefore you should theoretically be able to upgrade it. Of course which what I have said upgrading the CPU would require a large amount of the laptop to be taken apart.

Bah I'm not sure if I want to do that quite yet. I may just sell this cpu.
