Audio problems after downgrading to XP??

Thread Starter
Somebody please help me! I have about 10 hrs invested in dell tech support and troubleshooting regarding this issue:

Not an incredibly tech savvy person, so forgive me for my layman's terms.

I bought a Dell laptop about 6 weeks ago, it is an Inspiron 1525 and it came with Vista. I HATED Vista, so Dell sent me the XP CD and helped me to install it. They assured me that everything would still work properly after the install. For the most part, this is true. My only problem is that my soundcard does not work. Today, when I spoke to the Dell rep he told me that I have "Sigmatel STAC9228 on my computer and I need to wait until Sigmatel launches the Windows XP drivers for the system hardware".

Can somebody help me out with this? Will Sigmatel even launch an XP driver if they are trying to phase out XP? Is there anyway around this that Dell is not telling me?

Any advice is much appreciated!!!

Thank you,
Amy

Dell Support is correct in that it is up to the manufacturer to create and xp driver for their latest card, and you are correct in that they won't be highly motivated to create an older os driver. However most "new" hardware isn't really that different, I would try several of the older version sigmatel drivers and see what functionality you gain. I am not sure what Dell has tried with you in their troubleshooting. http://www.x-drivers.com/component/o...elect/id,7674/

had several options you could try. Good luck!
