Hooking to 50" Plasma?

Hi guys,

I am more interested in doing this with my desktop, but the same concept/question applies.

I am in the market for a new TV. One of the "perks" is because I'd like to hook my pc to the TV and use it as a monitor as well as a TV.

I understand that I have to make sure the TV has PC inputs, but I was wondering about compatibility.

Do I have to worry whether my pc's video card can handle the higher resolution? In other words, if I have an older machine that is running a max resolution of 1280x1024, will it be able to operate the higher native resolution of the TV, or do they have anything to do with each other?

Thanks,

Yes you do have to worry about your pc's vid card. It will only display whatever that resolution your tv is. Also for a 50" screen it is recommended that you have a SLI setup.

1- Besides what sid_c said (hardware limitation, if I got it right), check the video card max output resolution. If you happen to have an LCD monitor at 1280x1024, the video card may confuse you by displaying only that resolution as maximum. Check the max res for the 2nd monitor.

2- You can display multiple resolutions on TVs. I have an LCD TV and I can do multiple resolutions on it (of course, the native is better).

3- As far as I knew, the size was irrelevant. The problem was the resolution, how many pixels the vga can drive, not the TV size. Or am I thinking wrong?
