Set in a near future, this flight combat action game inspired by the best-selling Tom Clancy videogame franchises imagines a world where a private military force has cumulated such power that it attacks the USA. Thrust into the cockpits of incredibly powerful and technologically advanced jet fighters, gamers will benefit from hi-tech piloting assistance, providing comfort, security and enhanced perception. As players gain skills and confidence, they will be able to shed the assistance. But before choosing performance over security, they’ll have to weigh the risks carefully.

looks pretty cool!!!!

After playing Blazing Angles and a couple other flight games on consoles I dont know why they still make them. Just Flying in circles with other people until someone gets bored and lets you shoot them down. Rental to see if its any better but I doubt it.

Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. Hands-on

We suit up for hands-on time with the single-player portion of Ubisoft's new air combat game.
By Don Francis, GameSpot Posted May 28, 2008 2:34 pm PT

When not dodging incoming enemy fire, breaking missile locks, or doing flybys of the Christo Redentor overlooking Guanabara Bay, we were drifting our F-22 in Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X., Ubisoft's new air combat game. As the name suggests, the game is part of the Tom Clancy properties and even follows part of the Ghost Recon storyline. The level we played had us defending the city of Rio de Janeiro against scores of enemy fighters, tanks, and warships.

The F-22 Raptor is merely one of more than 50 planes slated to appear in H.A.W.X.

If you ask fighter buffs, the F-22 is arguably the most impressive air-to-air combat aircraft currently patrolling the skies. From the demo, we have to agree. Ubisoft Montreal has not only rendered the plane to look great, but they’ve also made it a blast to fly. The interface starts out with a just-behind-the-tail-section view of the F-22--think Ace Combat 6 or the classic After Burner. The plane slid, turned, rolled, and accelerated just as aeronautical aficionados would expect. We flew in close to the city without problem, weaved through downtown at high speeds, and drifted across Corcovado mountain. The smooth handling and the powerful turns made engaging enemy planes at both close and long range very enjoyable.
A pilot’s best friend is the heads-up display, which proved to be the case with our demo. Our wingman appeared in the top left to provide mission information with some solid voice acting and a well-animated flight suit. As we engaged enemies, there was plenty of chatter from the various pilots. The bottom left corner housed our radar for finding the next enemy to engage, but the real treat is buried in the bottom right corner. There you see a meter that measures the capacity for the Enhanced Reality System (ERS). Our flight instructor guided us through engaging the ERS to evade missiles, intercept enemy aircraft, and to get set up for our attack run on a target located in downtown Rio. When the ERS was activated, the meter would diminish as concentric triangles appeared in our HUD. As we flew through the triangular tunnel, we got closer to our prey, farther from our attacker, or ready to fire (depending on what objective was selected). While the targeting computer was quite intuitive, we discovered it could be disabled for a second mode of play.
By double-tapping the left trigger (also the brake), we disengaged the ERS and popped out to a more distant camera position. In this mode, we were left without the previously described HUD overlay but had even more flexibility of flight. With the targeting computer turned off, we were able to extend our piloting skills to pull off better drifts, fancier rolls, and some exciting--though potentially terminal--stalls. The plane's handling felt freer, more fluid, and more responsive. This new mode relied more on flying on intuition with less assistance. We could still cycle through targets, but enemy planes that came up with an orange icon indicated they were targeting us. A red arc would appear around our plane to indicate where enemy fire was coming from, and when the enemy aces were out to get us, we definitely took some damage.
Taking damage created an intense experience. Whenever you are hit, your plane goes into a stall. From the time the engines die until your plane hits the ground, you can try to fire up the engines again and fly away relatively unscathed. We were told after taking damage eight times, your plane will be destroyed. The same is true if you happen to crash into a building, a mountain, the ocean, or even a giant statue, but we didn't try all of those to find out. Steering our F-22 out of a flat spin and pumping the right trigger to ignite the engines wasn't too difficult. But with plenty of enemy aces circling us, the urgency was palpable. That only made us more intent on downing the MiG that hit us when we were flying again.

When you turn off the ERS, you can easily engage multiple enemies.

H.A.W.X. is said to feature 17 missions, more than a dozen settings, and scores of objectives to unlock weapons, as well as about 50 real-world fighter planes. The planes run the gamut from Vietnam-era aircraft to unreleased prototypes and international variants of common models. If the rest look half as good as the F-22 did--with its blinking lights, heat-distorted exhaust, and detailed paneling--the whole fleet will be worth flying later this year. We will be sure to keep you updated as the game comes along and more information is revealed about the cooperative and competitive modes of play.

H. A. W. X. takes to the skies to defend Air Force One at TGS 2008.
By Torrey Walker 10/09/2008

You're reading a Tokyo Game Show 2008 preview, which we've broken into three sections to make it easy to sift through during this week of convention madness. Check out TGS.1UP.COM for all (meaning words, screens, and videos) of our coverage from the show.

What's the game about? The newest build of the 360 version of Tom Clancy's H. A. W. X., Ubisoft's forthcoming arcade-style air combat fighter, has jetted its way to Japan. With a storyline beginning in 2012 about a world where warfare is waged most successfully through private military corporations, H. A. W. X. aims to add a deep and engaging storyline to the wild dog fighting action most recently popularized by the Ace Combat series. You'll be assuming the role of an ex- US Air Force pilot working for PMC Artemis Gold Security as part of their high altitude warfare experimental unit. What's new for TGS? Ubisoft demoed an advanced stage of H. A. W. X. at Tokyo Game Show where you'll be escorting Air Force One over the Appalachian Mountains to a safe zone used in times of military crisis (though our Ubisoft rep didn't disclose what president was riding in the plane). Incoming enemy fighters were shown on the radar minimap on a direct course for the president, and the president's jet would be attacked if it entered the enemies' aggro circle without you.

Our rep used this opportunity to once again showcase the Enhanced Reality System -- or ERS -- that can automatically plot visual routes mid flight to intercept enemy fighters or avoid incoming missiles. The ERS is part of a broader in-game construct called "assistance," which simplifies dog fighting for the novice combatant by preventing stalls and helping you to maintain control of the jet in addition to simplifying targeting and evasion. However, enemy jamming technology can disrupt the ERS, forcing you to use the free flight skills you've developed liberally in later levels.
What's our take? H. A. W. X. is an absolutely gorgeous game and appears to be shaping nicely for a release early next year. In addition to the unique take on air combat that promises to be accessible to even the most inexperienced of pilots (something I proved personally), Ubisoft also revealed that the entire game can be played in jump-in-jump-out co-op online. Multiplayer is also forthcoming with planned 4-on-4 dogfights where players can grab short duration power-ups like jamming and gun power boosts, naturally dispersed to favor the losing squad. To top it off, H. A. W. X. will offer a free flight mode where you can just enjoy the exhilarating experience of piloting any one of the 50-odd realistically modeled fighter jets in the game. We'll be looking forward to trying out more of these features as the game development progresses, but for now it's clear that Ubisoft is aiming high.

Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. Takes Satellite View of the Battlefield

High resolution photos improve "real" aspects of upcoming flight game

By Shawn Sines, 08/28/2008

Ubisoft sent out the word that Tom Clancy?s H.A.W.X will use photo realistic satellite images as reference thanks to GeoEye. GeoEye's IKONOS satellite system will provide the high-resolution imagery to create incredibly realistic flights through 16 international territories including Rio de Janeiro, Cape Canaveral and the Middle East. "High-resolution satellite imaging is moving from the black world of intelligence to the white world of commerce and Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X will bring that reality to gamers," said Mark Brender, vice president, corporate communications and marketing at GeoEye. "With video game graphics becoming more realistic, the use of high-quality photographic ground textures in H.A.W.X adds true photo-realism to the air combat experience."
It seems that the 3D imagery of Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X will assuredly be spectacular. Lets hope that control and camera issues can keep up with the graphics.

H.A.W.X. Demo Coming to Xbox 360 Feb. 11

Take a test flight with Ubisoft's new air combat sim on Wednesday.

By Kris Pigna, 02/09/2009

A demo for Ubisoft's upcoming flight combat simulator, Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X., is coming to the Xbox 360 this Wednesday, February 11, according to an announcement on Xbox.com (via Shacknews). The demo will have two missions. The first, Operation: Off Certification, will be a training mode, while the second, Operation: Glass Hammer, will take place in the skies above Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. The demo will also offer three fighter jets, the F-16A Fighting Falcon, the SU-35 Super Flanker, and the AV-8B Harrier II, as well as the option for four-player co-op.
Interestingly, the announcement claims the demo will be an "exclusive," although the demos for Resident Evil 5 and Skate 2 were also deemed "exclusive," and arrived on the PlayStation 3 anyway.
Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. is set for release on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on March 6.
Demo is out for 360, one of you DL this and give a first impression. Game drops on the 6th of March.

I thought it was ok. Not quite at Ace Combat 6's level of play. Froze once too.
