Well T4 was, and Im bitter because of the previous stated reasons, the fact that TTT was probably the best installment of the franchise and has not seen a sequel, and T6 was only a marginal evolution of the series and not the Next Gen Revolution I was hoping for. Most of my favorite characters have been nerfed along the way, there is an explosion of characters but balancing is not there and still favors a handful of characters.
All in all I was hoping that hardware power would allow for the next revolution in 3d fighters, but as all the big ones Tekken, SC, VF, DOA have shown, they devs are happy shinning up old stuff.
Its prolly gunna take a new dev to come with new IP and reinvent the genre, build from the ground floor up a new engine better capable of utilizing the new hardware, designed from the ground up to accommodate online gaming, etc etc Much like "skate" beat the preeminent Tony Hawk franchise like a mixed race step child, it may something similar for the FG genre.
Thats gunna be hard though as FG junkie loyalties for franchises run VERY deep, trying to get a wide user base on a new IP will be difficult. And with franchises like Mortal Kombat ever releasing new versions but relatively floundering compared to the more successful franchises. They only way to do this is probably going to require an arcade release, until you have a large entry field at evo, your nothing, and even then, look how long it took smash brothers to get an invite to evo.
So yeah the tekken franchise has been great, but other than T5DR, its been floundering since TTT and continues to do so with a f06 console release.
