Yeah not that shocking to me. Most people buy PC's for a low price, that's why they go PC. Macs are just always expensive across the board

Ithink Vista has done a great job at converting people to Mac as well.

That's a good point. The price point of Macs is ridiculous. Good thing I can take any G5 i want out of the lab

Uh... This is misleading.

I don't think they're saying that 64% of the computers sold for more than $1000 are Apples, they're saying that 64% of Apples sold cost more than $1000.

No, they're saying that Macs account for two thirds of all computers over 1000 dollars. Saying 64 percent of all Macs sold are over 1000 dollars is definitely wrong because I know the Mac Mini—the only sub 1000 dollar Mac—doesn't sell anywhere near that well.

Who's buying all these Macs?

Either way they will have to pry my PC out of my Dead Hands before I ever go Mac lol

Please keep these things in mind:
Quote:
The share data is for first-quarter brick-and-mortar stores
That means that this study does not take ANY online sales into account

Also, this study is only for the US market.

Third, Apple is the fastest-growing computer brand in the world right now (Asus is #2), so there is a significant amount of growth, although not necessarily as much as the study might indicate.

Fourth, $1000 is considered a high price point in many retail settings. Since all of Apple's computers cost more than $1000, it stands to reason that they'd have a significantly higher percentage in that market than they have in the overall market, as the study shows.

Macbooks are becoming de rigueur on college campuses from everything I've heard.

Plus there are many people fed up with Vista who are switching.

B&M...

Personally can't stand Apple systems. My brother loves them, but he doesn't know a gigabyte from a gigahertz, so that's why. My wife had to use Apple systems at one of her jobs, and they were great due to the simplicity for their needs, but they didn't do anything but inventory and count beads.

I say, if it don't game well, it ain't worth buying.

I know you can game on macs, but the amount of money/frame paid for an apple is far worse than most PC gaming systems.

Can you buy Apple systems online for a significant discount?

Most of the people I know use B&M stores to look at systems, then they go online to find the best price on the system they decide to buy. I look at electronics at circuit city, and costco, then go home and check pricegrabber for the best deal.

If you can't get a deal on an Apple online, that might be a big part of this statistic.

Apple controls the prices that Macs can be sold at. But many online retailers offer rebates and or hardware/software bundles for free.
