Is there a free linux based boot program that functions like Acronis's boot disc?

For those of you who know the Acronis program I am talking about; I am only interested in getting a free program to perform similar functions to its boot disk.

I would like to know if anyone knows of such a program. I would like to use it to access a vista installed drive that won't boot , not even in safe mode. Any information would be appreciated.

Might help if you could describe what the Acronis program does for those of us not familiar?

Sorry about that.

The Acronis program is a backup utility program that when installed on your computer is able to create a bootable disc that can image an entire drive or place an image of a drive on a new drive.

It also enables you to select individual files from the drive to backup.

I guess what I am getting at is a recovery disc that is able to load on boot so that I can access my files on the vista drive and back them up or move them to an external drive or flash drive for example. The acronis boot disc allows you to backup files even though the OS will not boot.

Well most utility linux distros will allow you to copy files for backup, actually that is pretty much any live cd. I keep Insert Linux around for recovery of computers in general.

But in as far as imaging, try Ghost4Linux
