Hot AW m5550 guy !

Hello =),because an Area-51 m5550 of my buddy goes very hot while gaming some am bitious games. In relation of that, this gaming machine (:lil_laugh) has only 1(?) conditioning fan, so I got just an idea: what is about to solder some other fan or two, of course, with some tricky handyworks and may be chasis upgrades?Well, the one original fan runs @ 5V and uses about 1,8-1,9W. Then, the faithful question: how many Watts of output supports this m5550 motherboard on the fan connector area (wanna solder it in a paralell manner to existing one)? Are there some other posibilities to solder extra fans otherwise on the motherboard area? One exact circuit diagramm of M5550's mainboard would make some things much more easier o_O.Many thanks for your deeply helpful leads!

I wouldn't go that far if I was him...He should do either of the following:

1. Keep the bottom of the lappy well ventilated while gaming.
2. Buy a laptop cooler
3. Make sure the fan is clear of dirt and dust by regular cleaning.
4. Add some arctic silver to the GPU and the CPU.

Last resort would be to sell the lappy and buy the M15X.

Good Luck!

yeah, a laptop cooler is a good idea, and make sure that the vents are cleaned every so often.

Thanks for your tips . BTW: Is it OK, if I have some area about 0.5-1mm filled with GODLIKE Arctic Silver 5 , between a GeForce Go 7600 graphics chip and their cooler pipe? Should I change the original foam plastic heat spreader of my GeForce against one out of raw copper (or silver) which is about 0.5-1.0mm of thickness?

If there is a foam heatpad, it's there for a reason. They're used mostly on memory, so the gpu chip itself gets good contact with the heatsink, then the memory can be used with the pads to make sure the main chip heatsink isn't too high or tilted. If you put solid heatsinks on the memory, it might cause problems with the interface with the main gpu chip.

If you want to use something other than the foam heatpads, you can try Arctic Silver 5 Ceramique. It's another product by AS5 that will set up and hold it's shape. Standard AS5 will heat up and liquify and run out of the interface.

AS5 makes three main products. AS5 thermal grease that stays somewhat soft. It's for tight spaces and over time will set up a bit, but remains fairly soft. The ceramique sets up more, and will retain thickness when put in gaps. They also make thermal adhesive, that is basically glue, so it sets up and isn't meant to be removed.

speaking from experience with my M5550, getting a laptop cooler is definitely the way to go. Once I got mine, I actually saw a performance increase because it kept the heat in check. Definitely a must have for any kind of gaming on the M5550.
