Visual Distortions When Using Tweaked 175.xx Driver

The picture I attached says it all. This is a completely fresh install of Win XP 32 bit. Only the core drivers are installed along with the tweaked MBF drivers. I go into the 3d settings window and I get these distortions. I can get rid of them by refreshing the desktop and moving the window around.

I am seeing if these distortions happen in the non-tweaked version or the last version (174)....i'll report back.

System: HP dv6646us, GeForce Go 7150.

EDIT: Same problem in non-tweaked version

EDIT: NO problems with 174.xx driver.

EDIT: Distortions re-appear after going from 174 to 175....looks like your beta testers missed something.

Those glitches look like what happens when you push the card too far overclocking.

It's not something from going from 174.xx to 175.16, as many of the testers did that, including myself.

Sorry but as I said, this was a fresh install of windows with no overclocking whatsoever. Plus since this is an HP laptop, I can't mess with any of the GPU settings. Literally, I took this screenshot just after reinstalling Win XP and all the usual drivers.

Oh but I should mention that after this reinstall and 175 installation, my benchmarks did improve overall by 2%.

Is it possible that this is an issue with nVidia's drivers and not your modifications of INFs?

EDIT: Similar distortions appear also when I open up SetPoint.

all i can say it seems fishy to me, looks like a bad overclock.

However it doesnt affect games? also can u show i screenshot of the driver version prefereably using gpuz showing your clocks (when the artifacts happen)

Well the thing is I can make the artifacts appear whenever I open Setpoint or the Adjust 3d Preview. This image was "wiped" to show the system without distortion, but the distortions were running horizontal in the middle of the screen through the setpoint dialog. http://img2.freeimagehosting.net/ima...13fe4b3d5d.jpg My GPU speed of 425 mhz is standard. The mem speed is 0 because it is shared memory. The bus speed is overclocked and ram timings tuned, but the artifacts were happening before that. Currently, I have only gotten Battlefield 2 running (just reinstalled Win XP) and there were no artifacts with that.

Yeah, like d0x! said, what those images show is usually the result of a card being pushed too far in overclocking. No one else that's used the driver has had issues like that, including a buddy of mine from school who has an HP dv2029 with a GeForce Go 6100.

Try out some other games, and see if you get any other artifacting.

since its an integrated gpu it shares the v memory with the ram, since you posted that u tuned yuor ram timmings then maybe thats it.

OK I have now had to go back to the 174 drivers because there are way to many distortion problems with the 175 drivers (tweaked and non-tweaked). I noticed (hard to miss) horrible distortions in Need for Speed 3, Unreal Tournament, in word documents with pictures, and some pdf forms. As I will say for the last time, this is NOT an overclocking issue. The 174 drivers have no problems at all with identical tweaks and bus overclocks (which is irrelevant since the problems with 175 happened before I applied these changes). The only conceivable way I can think of debugging this is to try just the plain jane default (non mobileforce) 175 nVidia drivers which I will manually hack to use my card. If the distortions reappear, nVidia f-ed up....if not....you know.
