dv9000 Can I do this?

I picked up a dv9000 yesterday and am impressed so far with the computer. I wanted to try to put xp on it, but dont wanna mess up the vista that is on the drive. I know I can make restore discs but I wanted to keep it perfect in case I decide to return the computer in the alloted time. I also realize xp may not even go on this thing very well with drivers.

I have some extra laptop hard drives, could I throw one in and attempt to put xp on that? Is there hp software in bios or some where that will change if I attempt to put xp on a different drive. Again id like to be able to try to put xp on a new drive, but be able to put in the original without any change. Thanks!

How about going to a dual-boot then, Sean? There are folks who have done fairly well at retrograding to XP, but it is not always a satisfactory result. I would try a dual-boot set-up, and then you are not taking any risks. If XP does work out well, then you can always make the switch at that point.

Worth a shot, any guides on setting up dual boot on hp? If not I can hunt around. Thanks.

There is a pretty clear guide on how to do it, here: http://www.pronetworks.org/forum/about88231.html

Nice guide, seems easy enough to setup a dual boot. How easy is it to uninstall back to a single vista boot?

That I can not say, not having done that personally. Maybe someone else here has the experience? I would not suspect that this would be hard to do, however.
