Area-51M 7700 issues... please help

Hey guys ... i lost my old username so i had to make a new acct.

Basically ... the problem i have been having today is this. I was using the laptop fine, then decided to plug in my iPhone (which has been done hundreds of times) then the screen decides to basically go black. So I restart the system, and the screen is so dark that i need a flashlight to see what is on the screen. The laptop basically runs fine but the screen is so dark/black I can not do anything unless i hold a flashlight and follow the mouse.

Alienware replaced my graphics card 8 months ago for this issue, and now the issue has started up again. I cleaned out all the dust, re-cedded all of the connections, and even applied new thermal paste on the GPU unit.

Any help folks? I really appreciate it

Sounds like it may be the inverter to the screen has blown.

It's possible the backlight burned out. There's a light behind the lcd panel that lights up so you can see the image.

cool ... any other guesses or anyone have this issue before?

I hope its not my motherboard ... I do not think it is because the computer starts and runs perfectly fine.

They are sending me a new screen inverter, which should be here by FRI. I'll keep you guys up to date on whatever happens.

thanks again guys !

It is the inverter, in the meantime use an external monitor for a temporary solution
