Hard Drive Problem

Hi i have a sony vaio laptop which does not recongnize the hard disk drive. in bios under primary drive it shows no drive precent. the hard disk is new and has been partitioned,formated as NTFS and tested on another computer, and works fine.

Could any body please help shed some light on what could be wrong.

. sony model?
. replacement drive fitting the requirement specs (sata, ide, etc ...)?
. did the problem occur (Not recognizing the drive from bios) BEFORE the replacement?
